I felt around my teeth. My fangs still hadn't gone back in. Weird. This has never happened before.Wait...I'm not...changing? Am I? I pondered on this for a while. It was getting dark when I heard the soft flutter of wings. Castiel stood behind me.
"Shadow? What are you doing? You've been gone the whole day."
"Oh. Sorry. I was...thinking."
"What about?"
"Well, you remember the day Raphael attacked us?"
"I try to forget, but, yes."
"So, I transformed, but, when I transformed back, my teeth stayed as fangs. I'm scared I'm losing control. If I am, I'll have to leave. I can't risk putting you in danger."
"Leave? You can't. I just got you back."
"I know. But, if I become a monster, I'll have to." Cas gripped my shoulders, scaring me slightly.
"You'll never become a monster. I know you won't. You're strong, you can fight it. You have to be..." He let go of me and sank to the ground. He started tearing up again. My heart tugged. I hated seeing him upset.
"Shh. It's okay. Cas. I'll be strong, for all of you. I promise." I wiped way his tears with my sleeve and pulled him up.
"Come on. The others will be wondering where we got to."
We teleported the the motel. Sam and Gabe were cuddled up together on Sam's bed. Dean was sitting on his, holding his head in his hands. Gabe caught sight of us, and tapped Sam on the shoulder.
"Dean? You okay?" I asked. He looked up at us. Cas moved towards him and embraced him. Dean hugged back, and I went into the kitchen area of the room. I magicked 'Tower of Dawn' and continued reading. I was just getting to the good part, when Cas cleared his throat to get my attention. I turned around and Sam, Gabe and Dean were standing behind me too. I put my book down, and stood up.
"What is it?" I asked, curiously.
"Well, we all had a talk, and, we've decided that maybe it'd be best if you stay with us, instead of leaving." Cas responded.
"What? But how did you-oh. mind link. I forgot to turn it off."
"Mhm. Look, if you become a monster, which I know you won't, then we'll just find a way to help you." Sighing, I picked my book up.
"Listen guys, I appreciate it but, I'll end up changing, one way or another. And when I do, you won't be safe if I stick around."
"But, you said you had a choice in which family you stood with. And you chose us. So surely you can choose whether or not you change."
"I...I don't know. I'm so confused. My existence used to be easy, but, now, I don't know what to do anymore. Do I stay and fight against Heaven or do I return, and allow them to execute me, or worse, make me a monster?"
"Shadow, there is something that Sam and Dean have proven. Don't worry about what Fate chose for you. She's a pain in the-well, you get the idea. The point is, you can choose your own path and your own destiny." Gabe chimed in. I sighed, shaking my head.
"My...monster issue...isn't a destiny thing. It's part of me. I can't do anything about it. I'll end up changing. There's no alternatives and no cure-wait...maybe there is something." Cas looked at me, utter shock on his face.
"Shadow, it's impossible. No one's seen him for years."
"Maybe. But, there's always Joshua."
"Well, yes. The only problem is, we can't get into Heaven."
"No. But I still can. A few minutes. That's all I need." Cas sighed, worry on his face.
"I don't like it. However, if it puts your mind at rest, I'll support you."
"Thanks Cas." I looked at the others, and they all nodded.
"But first, we have some ghosts to deal with."
