After Jennifer led Colin to his classroom, they parted ways. Not knowing when they'd see each other again.
Fortunately, that time came soon enough.Jennifer was sitting in the lunch room reading a book while she listened to some music. She didn't see or hear him coming.
'Uh hello Jennifer.' Colin said awkwardly.
She didn't hear him. He thought he should leave her alone. It was probably a stupid idea to talk to her in the first place. It's not like they were friends or anything. But just when he was about to look for another table he felt a tap on his shoulder.
'I'm sorry I didn't see you.' She smiled.
'That's alright I can just-'
'Don't be silly come sit with me.' She chuckled.
He smiled gratefully and sat down across from her. He took a cheese sandwich out of his bag and started eating.
'You don't have to bring your own lunch you know.' She closed her book and placed it on the table in front of her.
'Oh uh well I didn't bring any money so...' He said scratching behind his ear.
'It's free. You didn't have free lunch at your old school?'
'No. No I guess not. I mean I'm sure. My mom will be glad.' He smiled.
'Your mom?' Oh right she makes his sandwiches... that's- pretty cute? 'Oh never mind.'
'I offered to do it myself but she insisted.' He chuckled. 'What are you reading?'
'East of Eden.' She smiled holding up the book for him to see. 'It's my favorite.'
'Do you read a lot?'
'Oh yeah, it helps me escape from reality you know? I mean you probably don't.'
'Well I'm not really a book person but I understand.' He smiles. 'I have the same thing with music.'They talked some more about music and books and food. They found out they had that in common. They both loved food. (But who doesn't, right?)
'Should I show you how it works? The lunch thing I mean?'
'Yeah that'd be great. Thanks.'
Colin ended up getting fries, some meatballs and a few pieces of fruit. Jennifer on the other hand only got some carrots and an apple.
'You're really gonna eat that?' Colin said pointing to the raw carrots in disgust.
'Why not?' Jennifer shrugged taking a big bite.
'For one, it's rabbit food and... it's just gross.'
'Huh, lucky you don't have to eat them.' She smiled scratching her wrist.
They walked back to their table and ate the food in silence. Jennifer stole a few on of his fries, he only smirked at her in return. It was kind of weird just how much they liked each other. They just clicked.
In a friendly way.
For now.
