"What the hell is this?" Jimin asked as soon as the meaning of the words written at the back of the picture finally made sense into his mind. He was more than surprised to see it there, and a lot of things came rushing inside his mind when he finally understood what was written.
Shaking his head, Jimin crumpled the picture and spun around only to see Chorong a few steps in front of him, panting.
Jimin grip around the crumpled picture tightened, Chorong’s eyes widened.
“Jimin-ah, it’s..” Chorong trailed trying to find the right words for her explanation but all she got was nothing. Her voice had left her the moment her eyes landed on his hand that was holding the photograph. Shaking her head, Chorong tried to compose her sentence again but to her surprise, Jimin only walked past her with their shoulders bumping on each other.
“What..” Chorong trailed as she immediately spun around and ran after Jimin. “Wait!” She said as she grabbed his arm successfully stopping him from walking away.
“What?” Jimin asked, his voice impassive and his face expressionless scaring Chorong. “I.. It’s not what you think.” Chorong said and Jimin scoffed before slightly adjusting his place to face her. The old expressions he had given her before was now back, and it scared Chorong yet again.
“Not what I think? Then what am I supposed to think?” Jimin asked pressing some of his words. “Believe me, it’s not—“
“Then what should I think?!” Jimin asked raising his voice gathering the attention of some of the employees. Chorong can only sigh, being the hot topic in the office is the least of her concerns now because the first was Jimin. She was getting afraid of how he reacts, she can’t blame him though.
A few days of friendship, and now he finds out that she likes him.
“I like you, okay? It may seem to you like I befriended you because.. you’re just one of my other targets but no.. what you saw.. what you read there in that picture was all true.” Chorong said, head down low, her shoes became suddenly interesting to look at.
Jimin sighed, he never expected any of this.
He wanted to believe her, but then again.
His past had chained him again.
Chorong being the company’s player had already left an imprint on his mind and as much as he wanted to react to what she said better, his fear got the best out of him.
“Does anyone know about this?” He asked, his voice dead serious and Chorong looked away. Just from that, he knew that someone else knew. “Who?” He asked and Chorong now fiddled with her fingers. “Who?” He asked, his voice louder this time.
“Chanyeol oppa and Sunny.” Chorong said and Jimin flexed his jaw.
Is it the reason why Chanyeol sent them together to Japan? He immediately thought.
“Leave.” He shortly said and Chorong’s eyes widened as soon as she heard that words leave his mouth. “What?” Chorong asked and Jimin clenched his fist, it wasn’t him doing it, it was his fear.
His fear of getting left behind by the people he cares for the most.
“Leave.” He said. “And don’t make me repeat again.” He said and was about to leave when Chorong grabbed his wrist again. Her eyes are teary and as much as Jimin hated to see her cry, he can’t help but to feel that familiar pain and fear.
I’m sorry Chorong, but I’m born to be alone. He thought.
“Will... we still be friends?” Chorong asked, and although it pained her hearing him to ask her leave, it’s better than nothing. That’s how much she liked him.
“I don’t think it’s a goo—“
“Please.” Chorong said pressing the word and Jimin knew that he had broken her already just by hearing her pained voice. He sighed, tried to fight the urge to just hug her and ask her to stay. He hated the fact that he realized that what he felt for her was more than just a friend, all these while. After all the arguments, and bantering they did.
He realized.
He hated her not because he disliked her.
He hated her because he had grown to like her more than he expected.
“I’m sorry, Chorong. But in the meantime, please stay away from me.” Jimin said as he slowly and painfully removed his hands away from Chorong and walked away leaving the latter there standing alone. Entering the lift, Jimin spun around and faced her as the doors slowly closed and as soon as it did, Jimin punched the metal beside him and took a deep breath.
Why can’t I overcome this fear instead? He thought.
But then again, it would be a hard time for her, she will just suffer because of me. I tend to shut people out, I’m never good with handling my temper, maybe I should really get a therapist. He continued to think as his fist balled up again.
Being lost in his thoughts, Jimin already realized that he arrived at the graphic floor when he heard the sound of the elevator doors opening. Stepping outside, Jimin looked around and saw the usual. Employees working, sounds of telephones ringing, incoherent voices.
Shaking his head, Jimin made his way towards his cousin’s office.
“Hyung.” Jimin called as soon as he entered his cousin’s office. “Oh, what took my handsome cousin here?” Chanyeol asked as he removed his feet away from the table making Jimin sigh.
Shaking his head, Jimin threw the picture in front of Chanyeol and frowned.
His cousin raised his brows. “What?” Chanyeol asked as he opened the crumpled picture and raised his brows.
“You knew. Is that why you sent us to Japan?” Jimin asked and Chanyeol calmly put the crumpled piece down and looked up to his cousin who’s now looking at him with eyes that are full of anger.
“I didn’t do it to help Chorong.” Chanyeol calmly replied.
“Then what are the two of you doing?! Don’t you know how it’s hard for me to open myself to her and now this?!” Jimin shouted finally losing it. Not liking the raise on his cousin’s voice Chanyeol slammed his hand against the table and stood up.
“Why is it a big deal to you anyways?” Chanyeol asked, his voice just as loud as Jimin’s. That made the latter shut up.
Why is it a big deal to me anyway? Jimin asked himself.
“See? I don’t see why this is a big matter to you Jimin. She likes you, so what?” Chanyeol asked and Jimin kept mum. “You can just tell her the truth if you don’t really like her, it’s easy. Unless you do have something for her making you act like this.” Chanyeol said and Jimin clenched his fist and Chanyeol saw it.
“I don’t..”
“Don’t.” Chanyeol said cutting his cousin off. “Don’t be so impulsive, Jimin. Think of why you’re being like this, deny it all you want but I think I know the answer.” Chanyeol said as he sat back down to his chair again calming himself.
“If this is because of your past, if this is because you’re afraid to get left behind again then I suggest you should know Chorong better.” Chanyeol continued. “I think it’s the reason why you’re being like this.. you do have something for her but because you’re afraid to get left behind again. You’re reacting badly again, you’re being rash.” Chanyeol finished.
Jimin sighed as he spun his heels ready to leave until he remembered something that stopped him from his pace. He clenched his fist and closed his eyes as he took a deep breath as he tried to tell Chanyeol what has been imprinted on his mind and heart starting from the beginning.
“She’ll just suffer because of me, hyung. I’m supposed to be alone for the rest of my life.”A/N: Sorry for the late update. I'l try to finish this story as soon as possible! BTW, I'm having a new story soon featuring Chorong and Daniel! Their moments in Master Key is too cute .
