You angrily stabbed your dinner with a fork as your mother awkwardly tried to start a conversation amongst the three of you. She had been completely silent during the introduction of your boyfriend, during the drive home and pretty much up until she cooked dinner. Why she decided to talk now was beyond you.

"So...hows dinner? I decided to try something new. It's called...meatloaf."

"It's already been done Mom." You sarcastically reply, still poking away at the food in front of you.

Discouraged, your Mom goes back to eating the meatloaf. She quickly opened her mouth to tell a joke but decided it was best to stay silent, since nobody was in the mood to talk.

In a pathetic attempt to start a conversation, your Dad asked or rather ordered you to pass the salt. It's a real jerk move considering that you're sitting across from him and your Mom is sitting in the middle....right next to the salt and pepper. You've already been through a lot today and you didn't want to be bothered so you ignored him.

"(Y/n), I asked you to to pass the salt."

Your mother, sensing what your Dad was doing replied for you. "(Fathers name), the salt is right next to me. If you want it ask the person next to you not across from you." She said in a diplomatic tone, while passing him his salt, earning a grumble as a response.

After dinner you went straight up to your room, slamming the door behind you. Lying on your bed you reached for your cellphone only to find you have 32 unread text messages from your best friend. You let out a loud sigh as you dial her number, knowing that you're going to get an earful for not replying back.

"Hey, (best friends name)...."

"Don't hey me! You've got a lot of nerve ignoring my messages (Y/n)! Seriously like what's your problem?!?"

"My....parents won't let me see my boyfriend anymore and he lives an hour away. I'm sorry for not telling you... I....I just miss him and I don't know what to do." You lightly sobbed as the tears fell down your cheeks. Everything went silent for a moment before your friend made a suggestion.

"Hey, why don't you just sneak out?"

"I don't know. I mean he lives like an hour away and I don't have any change and it's no-"

"Oh my god! Do I have to spell it out for you?! Look, just get your stuff ready and meet me outside when your parents are asleep. And DON'T get caught!" She yelled before hanging up the phone.

You grabbed your backpack and packed all the things you needed; cellphone charger, extra set of clothes and whatever else you needed. As you zipped up your bag, your mother entered your room without knocking, startling you as you noticed her.

"Mom?! D-don't you ever knock? I mean I could have been naked!"

"(Y/n), I've been changing your diapers since you were a baby...so I've already seen you naked." She said calmly, before looking at your bag and sighing.

"Your father was only trying to protect you. Foxes are wild animals and are very dangerous."

"Last time I checked, they don't eat people!" You retorted. "Oh, forget it! You probably don't even understand what love is." You grumbled while crossing your arms, making your mom slightly angry. Her expression softened when she looked at you, reminding her that she was once a feisty teenager in love. What she did next completely caught you off guard, she hugged you and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead. "Just be safe okay?"

"Huh?" You asked completely dumbfounded as you watch her exit your room and smile softly. "You heard me. Now go, I'm sure your friend is waiting for you." You smile back at her, happy to have at least one understanding parent.

You quietly sneak out the front door, being careful to not wake up your father, who was sleeping on the couch. When the coast was clear you bolted outside while clutching your bag, quickly opening the car door that was parked a few houses down. "Jeez. What took you so?" (Best friends name) asked with a mouthful of bubble gum.

"I just had to get a few things."

"Well, whoever this guy is he better be worth it and he better have a hot friend. Cuz you so owe me." Turning the key in the ignition, (best friends name) started the car and punched in the coordinates on her phone. While the car was in motion, she chewed her gum loudly, occasionally stretching it and twirling it around her finger before chewing again, making you scrunch your face in disgust.

"Oh, by the way you have to call me Tawnya from now on."

"Why Tawnya?"

"Because I said so."

"Okay Tawnya."
