Another Monday evening, another shift to finish.
From across the shop, I see Lisa taking orders for a small family of three. "Would you like small, medium, or large?" she asks, a smile resting on her lips.
Our shift was almost done. Just another hour and we're out for the day.
Lisa and I have been getting closer. She's constantly talking to me whenever we're customer-free.
But this is bad.
This is so bad.
I can't let this happen.
I can't let her get any closer.
It's going to happen again. We're going to get closer and I'm going to screw it all up. I couldn't handle my emotions the first time, I'm not going to handle my emotions the second time. Fuck, why is there a second time? I don't deserve to have a second chance. I don't deserve Lisa. I need to tell Lisa off again before—
"Ayo, Chaeyoung!" Lisa shouts to me. "Can you help me with the drinks?"
I almost drop the broom I was holding out of surprise. "Uh, sure, coming!"
I place my broom against the wall and practically run into the kitchen. Lisa follows in after me, a little confused about the way I was acting.
"Are you okay, Chaeyoung?" Lisa asks as she walks past me to the machines.
Tell her off.
"It's Rosé."
Lisa turns her head towards me as she grabs for a medium-sized cup. The smile that was previously on her face was now replaced with a pout. "But I've been calling you Chaeyoung ever since we started working together."
"Well, it's Rosé, okay? I forgot to tell you this earlier but only my close friends and family call me Chaeyoung."
That was a bitchy thing to say. Lisa and I both know that.
Lisa knows what I'm doing. She knows I'm pushing her away again. She just doesn't know why.
"Uh, okay, Rosé. If you insist," Lisa responds with a small shrug.
I waddle over to where she was standing to start making drinks.
"So what were their orders?"
"Four medium Honeydews," Lisa answers with a clipped tone.
Yes! She's not trying to get closer with me anymore.
"So how's college going for you?" Lisa asks, tone suddenly bright and cheery again.
And I spoke too soon.
"It's fine."
"College is going horrible for me," Lisa says with a humorless chuckle. "I'm roommating with my two friends Jisoo and Jennie. Jisoo and I are currently fighting and it's putting Jennie in a grumpy mood, which is horrible because dealing with Grumpy Jennie is not fun."
I've heard about Jisoo and Jennie a lot from Lisa over the past two weeks Lisa and I have had to work together. They seem like decent people to me.
"Okay," I say back, not really knowing how she wanted me to respond.
Suddenly, Lisa puts down the drink she's making and turns her body towards me. Unlike usual, she has a serious look on her face and I could tell something was about to go down.
"I don't know what I'm doing wrong, Cha—Rosé. If you could just stop making me feel like a loser and an idiot for just five minutes, that would be nice. I want to get along with you again and I thought we were making progress but now—" Lisa takes a deep breath as she rubs either of her temples. "You know what? Why am I even trying to make up with you? You're a jerk, Chaeyoung. It's obvious that you're a jerk to me. It's so weird, you're so awful to me and I'm so good to you. Why do I do that? I swear I'm going to go crazy."
