I changed my code as soon as Jake told me the one he made. It was such a relief to have my pass code changed, so much in fact that I was dancing on the inside. I couldn't help but beam at the fact that I was finally able to access my phone. Of course, now I was going to have to change every password I ever made, thanks to Jake and his brother.
"Happy huh?" Jake commented, I felt his eyes on me the entire time I was on my phone.
I tried to hide my happpiness by getting rid of my smile, but it didn't work out too well because my smile just seem to beam even bigger than before. "No..." I said shaking my head with a huge smile, "okay maybe. You don't understand."
I put my phone to sleep and shoved into my pocket, feeling relief that my pocket was no longer empty.
"You love your phone like I love basketball, what's the difference? Well, there is a difference. You are technology dependent, whereas I can live without mine for a month," he stated smugly, still leaning against the wall.
I choked. Technology dependent? Who the hell does he think he is? Oh I know, some guy who can live without his phone for a month.
"I am not technology dependent," I stated, my happiness fading and my anger rising. This guy really likes to press my buttons.
"Oh please Fay. You couldn't last without your phone for what? Four days? I'm sure you were panicking on Sunday when you realised you lost it," Jake accused.
I wasn't panicking until I realised that someone got into my phone and started messing with my facebook you jerk.
But I didn't bother arguing with him. Instead, I let the subject drop, feeling like my emotions were going through a roller coaster and I knew, at some point, I would cry.
So I changed the topic:
"How did your brother manage to crack my code, by the way?"
"Oh," Jake's face seem to light up at the mention of his brother. "He's really, really smart, he's actually a little genius."
"Well, perhaps you can tell that litt-"
"Hey, guys! What's taking you so long huh?" Ellie yelled, from around the corner.
My heart began pumping faster than normal. My eyes darted to Jake's eyes and he saw the distress signal that I was sending. I looked back at the corner, expecting Ellie to come around and see that we were not acting at all like a couple. I was yet again, frozen in place, having absolutely no idea what to do.
Suddenly, a hand, a big warm hand, wrapped around my wrist and I was pulled, hard, into Jake's chest. His other hand clasped the side of my face and forced me to look up into his warm brown eyes, again.
Now my heart was pounding for a whole new reason. He was going to kiss me. The way he was looking at me told me that, the way his hand was on my face told me that, the way his eyes stared into mine told me that, and yet, I didn't want it. Not now, not after we just made our deal. It was too soon, I wasn't prepared. I needed time.
As he leaned in, I felt myself lean back a little. I would of leaned further back but his hand was holding me there. I had a sense that he wasn't expecting my reaction, I judge that purely on his facial expression. But I had to admit I didn't expect it either. For some reason my body was screaming: don't let him do it!
"Fay..." Jake whispered, still trying to kiss me.
"Yeah?" I asked, my voice trembling. I had to swallow hard, to push down my nerves.
