Charice and I entered the ice-creamy, the smell of food hitting me in the face and making my stomach rumble. We walked over to the girls, Ellie and Olive, who were sitting at our usual table, talking loudly and laughing.
"Hey guys," Charice greeted.
"Hey," they said in unison, both lifting their heads to greet us further, with a smile.
"Where have you guys been?" Ellie asked, looking at us as we slid into the booth and sat in front of her and Olive.
"Ah...just had to discuss some things but everything's good now," Charice lied smoothly.
I leaned my elbows on the table and tried to keep a poker face as Ellie studied us with narrowed eyes. She shook off the lie with a shrug and turned her head in the direction towards the boys, who were waiting in line to go order food. I took this moment to take a look at the table in front of me because it always had mysterious carvings carved in the table and I loved following the lines to see where they led.
Ellie must of caught Neal's attention because not two seconds after I began tracing a line, Neal was hovering over me.
"Hey ladies, is there anything specific that you want to eat?"
"Whatever Tyler wants to get us, I suppose," Olive replied, placing her hands on her lap.
"Yeah...I'm with Olive on that one," Charice nodded, she too, placing her hands in her lap.
"Fay?" Neal asked, raising both his eyebrows in a questioning expression.
I looked up from the carving in the table, that I was tracing with my forefinger, and saw everyone looking at me expectantly and felt an unnecessary pressure begin to raise.
"Oh. Um...whatever," I answered casually, making a quick glance from Neal to Jake and back to the craving, which made my brown hair fall down and hide the side of my face that faced the boys.
"Well, I guess that just leaves me with some preferences then..." my eyes looked up at Ellie and watched as she exhaled, slid out of her seat gracefully and follow Neal. Shortly after ordering, she walked back towards us, slid into the booth and stared into the gap between Charice and I, having a big grin plastered on her face the whole time. Charice raised her eyebrows and was the first to ask the question we were all thinking.
"What are you smiling about?"
Ellie quickly snapped out of her daydream and looked at Charice with a blank expression. "What?"
"What were you smiling about?" Charice repeated, her voice sounding a little amused by Ellie's lack concentration.
"Oh," Ellie's blank expression changed to a giggly smile. She sighed happily and replied: "just god's masterpiece."
"God's masterpiece?" Olive questioned amusingly. All of us seemed to find Ellie's choice words funny, especially because we knew she was talking about a boy. This was how she was when it came to boys. Ellie was a strong, out-spoken fighter, who could ultimately fall to her knees just by seeing the faint outline of boy's bicep.
"Come in, ladies," Ellie gestured with both her hands for us lean in closer.
"And...now look," Ellie used one hand to gesture towards the front counter, where all our eyes set upon the sight of Jake leaning on his elbows on the front counter as he was ordering, he's backside on full display and of course, what Ellie dubbed as 'masterpiece'.
I rolled my eyes and fell back in my seat with a 'humph'. I felt a crease between my eyebrows emerge as my gaze was locked onto the cravings again.
