"Even the mountains cannot hold all you've been carrying." -isra al-thibeh

It's Friday night, and there's a football game. Somehow Damon convinced me into quitting the cheerleading squad. It wasn't me, even though I looked great in the uniform. Plus Caroline being the boss of me was not something I could stand much longer.

I spot Stefan and walk up toward him with a smile on my face. I was excited to see him play and couldn't help praising myself for pushing him to join the team.

"Ooh. Look at you. You look hot in your jersey." I kiss Stefan on the cheek.

"What happened? No more cheerleader?" Stefan furrows his eyebrows looking me up and down.

"I quit. I'm a quitter." I laugh and shrug.

"No, hey, you're not a quitter. You tried something new, you put yourself out there, and you're amazing for it. Ok? I hope you don't think this is too soon or too weird, but...I, uh, I wanted you to have this." Stefan opens up a box with a necklace inside. It was a small thick silver cross with beautiful detailing on it.

"Oh, my God, it's beautiful." I smile and look up at him.

"It's something that I've had forever, and, uh, I've never wanted to give it to anyone until now. I'd very much like it if you'd wear it for me, for...good luck." He smiles, and I grab the necklace looking at it.

"Is that rose that I smell?" I ask smelling something from the necklace.

"No, it's, uh...it's an herb. It's nice, huh?" Stefan smiles.

"I love it." I grin and turn around so Stefan can help me put it on. It hung from my neck, and I look at it once again and bite my lip.

"And, uh, I wanted to thank you for pushing me to try out for the team. It feels really good." Stefan says.

"We're a pair. I quit, you start." I joke, and he laughs.

"Right. We're a work in progress. We'll figure it out." He says, and I tiptoe up to kiss him.

Caroline walks towards us and looks me up and down, "And you're not in uniform because..."

Before the game Coach Tanner held a speech talking about how he was proud of the players and talked about Stefan specifically. I watched as the other players wore envy on their faces. A couple of heads shoot over toward a loud commotion, and I see Tyler, one of the football players fighting with the stoner from the back to school party, Jeremy Gilbert.

Stefan runs over and grabs Tyler's wrist stopping him from punching Jeremy. "Hey, he's down! Enough!" Stefan yells.

Tyler punches Stefan, but Stefan barely budges. It was as if it did not affect him. I saw the fear in Tyler's eyes and my eyebrows furrow. I spot Jeremy grabbing a broken glass bottle and strikes at Tyler, but he moves out of the way, and he cuts Stefan's hand instead.
