"i find it amusing that we're all pretending to be normal when we could be insanely interesting instead." - atlas

Dear diary,

Adopted. I am Alaric Saltzman's adopted daughter, but, turns out he isn't my first adoptive parent. I had two. The two who loved me and left me to believe I was their blood. After Stefan told me about my parents I ended up unraveling kept secrets. One secret I have yet to unmask is if I'm not really a Grey then; who am I?

I need to find out who I truly am. In order to focus on myself I ended things with Stefan. Things that shouldn't have started in the first place. I feel awful for leading him on, but now things are for the best. Alaric is upset about the car being wrecked but thinks my safety is more important. We don't know who this vampire is, Alaric has been doing research or that's what I think he's been doing. He's developed an interest in Jeremy Gilbert's aunt/guardian. She has been a great distraction, it's nice not having him hover over me even though that's part of his job as being my watcher. More importantly, Alaric being interested in Jenna is great since he's not sulking about his past wife.

I hear a knock on my bedroom door and quickly put my journal away, "Come in." I call out and Stefan walks in.

"Thanks for letting me come by." He smiles and I purse my lips. I'm willing to trust Stefan after he was honest with me, but of course my guard will be up. "I wanted to make sure you were okay. Haven't heard from you since-"

"Since you were the bearer of bad news." I scoff and he purses his lips. "It's fine Stefan, I'm glad you told me. We just have to worry about this new vampire in town."

"Do you remember anything else about him?" Stefan asks while taking a seat on edge of my bed holding a box.

"I wish. He'd be dead already. I never really saw his face. He was wearing a hoodie. All I can remember is that there was these black boots coming towards me and-" I stop myself from mentioning Damon.

"I brought some vervain for, um—for you. Not that you need it but- " Stefan opens the box and I sit up straight. "Um, I made this bracelet for Alaric, and there's a few extra ones for friends." I observe all the jewelry and branches of vervain in the box.

There was enough items of jewelry for everyone I had in mind, Jenna, Jeremy, Bonnie, and Caroline. Anyone who is linked to Alaric and I needed to be safe. "Thank you, it means a lot." I brush my hair behind my ear and notice a vile of vervain.

"Until we find out who it is and what he wants, we have to be careful." Stefan says and I nod understandingly. After Stefan leaves I start to put the vervain in all the jewelry then head out for school.

Out in the front courtyard of the high school after school, I walk along side Caroline who was observing the necklace around her neck I had just given her. Caroline was the first person I had to give vervain to after her encounter with Damon. I didn't want her to be a walking juice box again.
