"The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Be brave. Live." -buffy summers

Close your eyes. Feel the world around you, open your ears and take in your surroundings. You are strong, you are brave, you are the chosen one.

My hand grips onto my wooden stake tighter as I feel force coming at me. I quickly sway my hand toward the right and it gets caught by the strong hands of Alaric. He shoves me back and I flip backwards, perfectly landing on the floor crouched down. My leg swifts across the floor causing Alaric to fall. Run up toward him with my stake high above me, ready to strike.

Alaric's eyes widen in fear then his lips curl into a smile. I pretend to stake him and lift myself off. I brush away the sweat drops on my forehead and tighten my ponytail.

"You're getting quicker with your strikes; you just need to focus on your defense. Your mind is too crowded, mind telling me what's got you distracted?" Alaric breaths heavily.

Before I could answer the doorbell rings, echoing from the floor above us. I place my wooden stake along with the rest and remove the bandages I have wrapped around my hands.

"That's Bonnie. I plan on telling her everything." I say grabbing a towel and heading upstairs.

Alaric follows me up the stairs while opening a water bottle. "Are you sure about this?"

"She's my best friend, Alaric. I'm tired of the secrecy. " I sternly day opening the door revealing a distraught Bonnie. "Hey Bonnie, come in." I smile, and she awkwardly looks at Alaric and walks in.

"I'll be in my office." Alaric purses his lips and leaves us.

I look at Bonnie and give her a soft smile, "Thank you for coming, I know you have a lot of questions."

"I do." She says lifting her chin slightly.

"I'll tell you everything, but first, follow me," I say and start walking toward our basement. I open the forbidden door and walk down the steps with Bonnie following behind me.

Bonnie's eyes widen when she sees our large basement. The light from the small windows near the ceiling let in light that landed on the black mats on the floor and walls, the punching bag, and other necessities for training. Her eyes land on the wall of weapons, which sliding doors covering it were left open.

"Mikayla, what is this?" She says fascinated by the room she never set foot in.

"This is where I train; it's kind of my sanctuary." I smile looking at the wall of weapons.

"Train? For what?" She furrows her eyebrows.

"Into every generation, there is a chosen one. One girl of all the world, it is her responsibility to stop the evil in the world." I begin and stop myself since I started to sound like Alaric. "Everything you were told is make believe is real. Vampires are real, you were a victim of one last night and I'm sorry about that. It's my job to protect and I failed."
