“David?” I yawned.
I groggily looked around
David wasn't next to me
I heard a baby crying downstairs and distant shushing.
I assumed that Rose started crying and David took her downstairs to get her back to sleep to not wake me up.
Harō was also awake and was licking my hand.
Ah shit.
I completely forgot about my injured hand, it was covered in dried blood the Harō was cleaning off, making it bleed again.
“Harō I love you but your not helping” I said stroking him
I got up and went downstairs to go get some bandages, holding my other hand underneath because it was now dripping blood everywhere.
I came to the bottom step to see David pacing around the kitchen holding a crying Rose.
“Shh, go to sleep Rose” He tried to give her a cuddly toy but she slapped it away “Rose, please go to sleep"
“Maybe she needs a lullaby” I said making David jolt slightly
“Uhh Ok? I don't know any. At least one that doesn't involve swearing" David said, still pacing
“,We'll let me patch myself up first and I'll sing her one” I laughed nervously. David hadn't noticed my hand before so seeing my hand drenched in blood was not likely to spawn a good reaction.
“Patch yourself up? What happened?” He asked
“Eh. Knife slip. It happened back at tescos when I was cutting off a pocket from my hoodie to use to clean rose.”
I gave an innocent smile “I kinda just forgot about it”
“Ok, be careful next time” he said smiling,
I nodded and went to our first aid kit.
That's was...strange
David is normally much more...passionate about such things.
One time I hurt myself he punched a nearby wall. Hurting his hand.
Maybe he was to tired.
Or maybe it's because he's looking after rose?
Who knows.
I rummage through the first aid kit on the side and pull out a bandage, wrapping it around my hand.
After doing that I walked over to David, gently took rose from him and sat down on a chair.
I thought for a minute of what a baby would like as a lullaby.
So I ended up singing ‘lavender's blue’
It was a song my mum sang me when I was a baby and sometimes when I was having panic attacks.
I gently sung it as I rocked back and forth with rose in my arms.
David just simply watched.
Rose began to quiet down and eventually fell back asleep.
David had a surprised look on his face.
“It, what, how?” He said in confusion,
“Sometimes a female presence works wonders” I said smiling.
“You don't say" David muttered
We then went back upstairs.
But before I opened the door I heard a window sliding open
