The name Beisht Kione means "the beast with the black head". Feared by the local fishermen and sailors, the Beisht Kione was said to be a sea monster residing in the Irish Sea, south of the Isle of Man, and was dreaded by all who sailed the coast.

These creatures are asexual. The baby forms inside the parent near the end of its life, then burrows its way out of the parent's body when fully formed, killing it in the process.
