I sighed as my eyes cracked open to the harsh sunlight beating down on me. It was about halfway to sun high and I was on my way to Egypt on behalf of a good friend of mine, King Michael of the Conde kingdom up north. I was their most trusted advisor and was called upon most during war, alongside their daughter, Princess Olivia. Everyone thinks she's the next heir to the throne, seeing how she's superior to the generals in strength, physical and mental, willpower, and chess. Chess was a big decider in the Conde kingdom.
Anyway, I was on my way to Egypt's capital with Olivia to discuss trade and an alliance with the pharaoh.
"Morning, sleepyhead! I thought you died overnight or something." She giggled.
Oh yeah, probably forgot to mention she's my best friend.
"Well, I'm up now. Anything new?" I rubbed my eyes and popped my back on the giant horse I was riding, Star, Olivia's personal stallion.
"There's only an hour's travel left until we reach the capital so you can ride a bit more, (y/n)"
"No! If the pharaoh sees me riding, he'll think I'm the princess!" I protested.
Olivia smirked," well, we could have some fun with that, couldn't we, (y/n)? You of all people should know I'm always up for a prank or two. Listen, stay up there and act as the princess. I'll act as a servant until I think its time to reveal the truth. K?"
"Fine. Whatever you say, princess." There was no point arguing with her. She was as stubborn as her father and rebellious as her mother so I went along with her little plan.-timeskip brought to you by the Thief King flirting with Olivia and getting beat to a pulp-
"22 bottles of beer on the wall. 22 bottle of beer! Take one down, pass it around, 21 bottles of beer on the- hey, we're here!"
"PRAISE RA!" I yelled out, earning a raised eyebrow from Olivia. I added," WATER!"
I praised the gods above that we were here. Olivia had been singing that song from 1,000 and I thought I was going to die.
She led Star into the town, where people's eyes widened at his bulk. He was a war horse after all.
I grew embarrassed by the stares and looks people were giving me," Olivia, are you sure this is a good idea?"
"Of course it is. And if it goes into turmoil, you can blame me and I'll take the brunt of it."
I sighed as she continued to lead the massive horse through town, towards the palace. A guard ran up to us," names?"
"Princess Olivia and her maid, (y/n)." I spoke in a confident voice, despite my twisting gut.
'Liar.' It accused
'Not really. Those are our titles and names.' I argued back
"Follow me. I'll call a stable boy to take care of your horse." I nodded to the guard and slipped down from Star's back.
A boy ran up to us," I was told to take your horse for- HOLY RA THAT'S A BIG HORSE!"
I giggled," yes he is. He's my personal war horse so be careful with him. I don't want you to get hurt."
He nodded and took the reins from Olivia, coaxing Star away to the stables.
I gulped and walked with Olivia to the door.
"You're a good actor, (y/n)." I heard her whisper.
"Eep! Don't do that! And I'm only going with this because you're the next in line for the throne!" I hiss.
She giggled as we were let in to the throne room. The pharaoh was sitting on the left throne and the right was empty.
"Bow your head." Olivia whispered to me and I obliged as she knelt in respect.
"Rise." He smiled in my direction and dismissed the guards," alright, stop the charade. I know you two switched roles."
Olivia's mouth dropped open," how?"
"Your father sent a portrait of you since he thought you would try to pull something." The pharaoh chuckled, causing Olivia to pout.
Humor and amusement danced in his eyes as he looked between us. Was it me, or did his eyes linger on me a second longer?
'This is going to be one interesting trip' I grinned slyly to myself
