Three years later

It's been a few years since Jalayah left me and Madison behind to restart her life. I cant even lie and say these years were awful because they weren't. Being with my baby girl all day is amazing.

Having her wake up next to me with my same face every morning is a blessing. I'd rather have Maddie over Jay any day because I know she would never leave me.

"Maddie." I called her from the front door. I got a new house in a new community, but still in New Orleans after Jalayah left. You know just to start Maddie off  with a fresh environment.

"Yesh daddy?" She skipped down the stairs with her clothes on.

She's only in Pre-K, but I swear everyday she gets older. I just wished she would stop at this age.

"You ready Lil mama?" I grabbed her book bag. "Yesh." She ran out the house. I shook my head and grabbed her lunch bag, which she leaves everyday rushing to get to school.

If it wasn't for her looks, you wouldn't know that she belonged to me though she loves school and I never did. On top of that I have an attitude problem and she's all bubbly.

"Daddy can ya take my pic please." She poked out her bottom lip. "Sure princess." I got this girl spoiled. She done wrapped me around her finger ever since the day she came.

I snapped a picture of her standing on the steps in front of our apartment. "Stink, why ya ain't ready?" I showed her the picture.

"Cause I didnt find the right pose yet

"Cause I didnt find the right pose yet." She giggled. "Well ya betta hurry, so ya not late for school." She nodded and finally found the pose she wanted, which was simply smiling while sitting on the steps.

"Now was dat so hard?" She shook her head giggling. "Talm bout take my pic, you wasn't een ready." I shook my head chuckling as I grabbed her hand and headed for the school.

I rather walk her to school than drive because it gives us even more bonding time. "So when ya get ta school what ya gone tell Brandon?" I asked.

"Ya' got cooties." I gave her a high five. Brandon is a kid that's in her class and so called "likes" her. That lil nigga don't know nothing bout relationships. He only supposed to be liking action figures not my baby girl. As we made our way to the front door, I saw Maddie stop for a minute.

"What's wrong daddy's baby?" I looked down at her. "Well it's jus' dat, I have a new teacha' Ms.Love and she pretty."

"Ok and you think daddy wanna date her?" She nodded. "Never. I only want one lil lady in my life and dat's you." I pinched her cheek. "Okay?"

She nodded.

She kissed my cheek. "I love ya daddy, see ya lata'."

"I love ya more beautiful, see ya'."

As I walked down the street back to the house, I kept thinking about what Madison said and my response. And I was serious, I'm no longer looking for love because the woman I wanted left me and God's greatest gift to us alone.

I just don't want anything like that to happen again, so until I feel like Maddie and I are both ready to welcome someone else into our home, I'm sticking to my regular routine.

I made it back into the house after a good five minute walk. I made my way to my room and began putting on my work clothes.

I work at a mechanic spot for my uncle, downtown. It ain't nothing too amazing but it brings in money to get food, clothes, and pay the bills.

I grabbed my car keys and pulled off seeing that I was a little behind schedule. Within a matter of 15 minutes, I was pulling up by my uncle spot.

"August." He saw me as he walked outside smoking a fug. "Wassam unc." I dapped him up and made my way into the shop. I looked at the schedule seeing who would be working with us today, but it was just Kevin.

He's my lil hardheaded ass cousin

He's my lil hardheaded ass cousin. The only reason he got this job is to cover up his side hustle, selling. After Jalayah left, I thought about selling drugs to help build a living for Madison's sake. But I didnt want to go out and never come back to her. Then she wouldn't have her mother nor father, so I came straight to Unc Joe's shit.

As I put my stuff into my locker, I heard the front door bell ring and a lot of commotion and laughter so I knew it was Kevin.

"Wassam Yung." He dapped me up. "Wassam Kev."

"How baybeh gal doin?" He referred to Madison. "She good bruh, in school righ'  na' as we speakin'." He nodded.

"Well tonigh' me and my goons hittin' up dis live ass club cause it's 'posed to be some fine ass female rappa' up dere. Ya trynna slide through wit' a yungin'?" Everybody think my accent bad till they hear this fool speak. Only niggas from Nawlins know what this nigga be saying.

"Nah man, I tell ya dis everyday."

"C'mon G, jus' one nigh'. Drop lil baybeh off by MawMaw and hit da club." I shook my head. "Nope."

"Man ya ass a bitch." He sucked his teeth. "Ayye watch it back dere." Unc Joe warned Kev, but I ain't bout to touch his goof ass. "Why I gotta be a bitch fa stayin' home wit my daughta'?"

"Cause ya ass ain't trynna go out jus' fa one nigh' man. Ya ain't een gotta stay da whole nigh' jus' a couple hours."

"Aight man." He did a lil dance. "Ayye man! Aug rey get hisself a Turk Turk."

"I dont know bout allat." I chuckled. "Well I do." He dapped me up walking out to the front. This nigga right here bruh. I shook my head, guess I'm going out tonight.
