CHAPTER FOURTY

The sound of hooves drumming against the hard ground was music to Belle and Halt's ears.

They had been hiding for nearly ten minutes. The Kalkara was still trying to catch their scent when the drumming hoof beats caught it's attention. It looked up from it's concentrated gaze, and listened as yelling added to the hoof beats. Then, with one last scream from the Kalkara that stayed at the fire, a big light flashed high in the sky, and Belle knew the Kalkara was dead, leaving just one more of the disgusting creatures left in this world.

Belle smiled and turned to Halt. His grim face was still fixated on his face,

"Will?" Belle asked Halt for confirmation. Halt had told Belle that Will had gone to Redmont to get Rodney and Baron Arald. Halt nodded. Belle felt a tingly feeling inside at the thought of seeing Will again. She had missed him so much.

There was silence for a while, and Belle and Halt saw the remaining Kalkara run off toward the hoof beats.

"You stay here," Halt said, beginning to crawl out og the small enclosed hiding place. "I'll go see what's going one." Belle, although wanted to join the excitement, knew that it would be better to listen to Halt, since she hadn't done much of that lately. Belle nodded understanding, and before she knew it, Halt disappeared into the darkness.

More screams came and went and a lot of yelling. Belle felt her heart beat faster than normal, listening eagerly to what was happening, until she couldn't bear it any longer.

She crawled out of the hide-out and stumbled through the darkness. She heard Baron scream in pain while she made her way to the scene and another eair piercing scream. Then silence. Belle reached a small rise which gave her a full view of what was happening.

She saw Arald's limp body on the ground, and not far from him lay Halt, unconcious. Belle felt her insides erupt and she felt like she was about to throw up. She took in the rest of the scene as she saw Rodney facing the Kalkara, in an unblinking stare. She assumed he had been taken over by the Kalkara's eyes. Belle felt tears well up as she searched frantically for Will.

Then, she only just niticed Will in his mottled cloak behind some bushes, alive and well.

What is he doing, Belle thought, trying to make out what he was doing with a bit of flame that lay on the ground. Then, all of a sudden, the death song of an arrow flew through the air and hit the Kalkara. But, what came as a surprise for Belle was, there was flame at the end of the sharp point which made the Kalkara scream as the flame spread across his body until, in one big flash, he disintegrated into nothing more then ash.

The Kalkara was dead.

Gilan had come soon after the Kalkara's death and they all decided to wait until sinrise to start to move out. Halt had regained conciousness to everyone's relief and he was now sleeping peacefully. Arald was being taken care of by Gilan, who was mending his wound where the Kalkara had striked him and Rodney stood watch for the campsite, who only felt a little dizzy from the encounter with the Kalkara's eyes. That left Will and Belle who were both fine apart from some scraped skin and bruises.

Will and Belle were sitting together on a log a few metres away from everyone else for some privacy.

After a passion filled kiss of the couple being reuntied they had been talking non-stop to each other. But, Belle noticed a strange mood in Will.

"Is everything ok?" Belle asked. Will gave Belle an are-you-serious look.

"Well, apart from everyone almost being killed, I'm fine." Will said.

What was with him? Belle thought, his mood had significantly changed after their kiss. Belle kept looking at Will, waiting for the real answer to come out of Will's mouth. Finally, Will sighed and began talking.

"Ok, you wanna know why I'm angry?" Will asked.

Angry? Why is he angry?

Belle nodded, urging him to go on. "Because I can't believe you would come here an risk you life." Will said, his tone filled with irritation. Belle raised her eyebrows at him.

"Excuse me?" she asked, slightly irritated that he was angry at her. She had come to fight the Kalkara so she could be with him, and this is what he gives back to her.

"You heard me," Will began, "you shouldm't have done it, you should have stayed with your dad so you wouldn't get hurt!" Will's voice rising slightly into an angry yell, causing everyone at camp to look at them.

"I can look after myself and I hardly got hurt!" Belle retaliated.

"hardly got hurt?" Will asked putting emphasise ont he word 'hardly' making Belle annoyed.

"What are you trying to say Will, that I can't look after myself?" Belle asked, her faced red with anger.

"Of course I'm saying that! You're a girl for god's sake! You're not as strong as the rest of us, which is why we sent you away!" Belle felt tears sting her eyes.

Why was he being so mean? All this time, Belle had thought he was on her side and understood that she wasn't just any normal girl, but she now realised that she was wrong about him.

"You know what, Will?" Belle began, her anger on overload. "I really thought you were the one. I love you! And then you go and trample all over my pride! Well I-" Belle was then cut off from her sentence. Will's face had soften as he heard Belle say she loved him.

"Belle, I'm sorry. You actually love me?' Will asked. But Belle didn't want his apology, what he had said hurt her and she didn't want a guy to treat her like that.

"Nope, not anymore! It's over between us!" Belle yelled. She started to storm off when Will's voice called her name.

"Annabelle! What do you mean?" Will asked, runnign toward her. Belle whipped her head around, giving him a killer look.

"I mean it's over! O-V-E-R! Over! You got it? Now back off!" Belle said before running off, tears blurring her vision. She couldn't believe what had just happened.

Belle kept runninf throught the darkness, ignoring Will's protests and didn't care where she was anymore, she just never wanted to look in Will's beautiful brown eyes again.

A/N: SECOND UPDATE IN THREE HOURS!! didn't think it was possible did ya!!

I know it's short, but more is still to come!!

Can't believe Belle and Will broke upD: but I had to so WIll could get with Alyss and so Belle will end up with someone else.
