It was easily one of Luna's favorite days. Rain splattered against the windows of the classroom and the sky was a calming, cool gray. On days like these Luna found herself entranced with the beauty of rain and the comfort that came with it. It was Friday and last period, she was sat at her table that was shared with another student, listening to her Mythology teacher going on about the history of the supernatural whilst doodling aimlessly in her notebook.
Her high school was different, they allowed their students to choose from an abundance of classes that varied from art to other science courses. She, of course, had to take her main courses (Math, Science, English, History, and Foreign Language) but the school left it up to the students to pick the other classes they wished. Luna decided on taking 3 extra art courses and Mythology. Her best friend, Ryland, suggested that it would be a good idea since she always seemed to have a mild interest in all things supernatural, especially since he was under that label.
Ryland is a werewolf, to put it in simple terms. Luna found out when she wasn't even 8 as he almost transformed in front of her due to his anger from someone almost taking advantage of Luna. She accepted him with open arms as he was still the Ryland she had grown to adore. They have been through a lot together and you would rarely catch these two apart from one other. After him coming out merely 4 years ago when she was 13 and him 14, it brought them even closer if that was even possible. You could never really catch one without the other, as they called themselves platonic soulmates.
Ryland shot her a glance and a short smirk from his table that was one row over. She met his eyes and glared at him, slightly annoyed that he wasn't paying attention to what the teacher was saying. He got her message and responded with a dramatic eye roll and turned back to what the teacher was going on about.
"I think I covered everything I needed to, and we still have a bit of time, feel free to ask any questions you want!" The teacher said, enthusiasm evident in his voice.
Not one hand was raised. Luna looks around the room. The class was surprisingly large, probably because they were told the class was an easy 'A'. Luna was never one to speak up in class, although she is known for being intelligent, participating is not one of her strong suits. Yet she somehow finds herself tentatively raising her hand.
"Yes, Luna?" The teacher says, seeing her hand up.
"Will we be covering vampires in this course?" She asked quietly, not wanting to speak too loudly.
Everyone whipped their heads to look at her, their eyes all open wide with shock. Luna shifted uncomfortably, hating to be center of attention, she could already feel her face heat up as she turned her head down suddenly finding her dirty white sneakers more interesting.
It was uncommon to hear anyone ask about vampires. This town was--weird, to say the least. Ever since Luna and her other peers were young, it has been conditioned for them to NEVER ask about something so dangerous to humans. Yet that still didn't stop her from wanting to know more, especially since it is something so forbidden in this town. Her own parents even refused to answer her questions when she was younger.
"We will not," The teacher answered shortly, shocked by her question. The teacher loosened his tie as if it had suddenly gotten hotter in the room.
Ryland looked at his best friend, a sense of protectiveness settling in him. He could smell her anxiety from here, and although it's a smell that it constantly hanging around her, it was considerably stronger in this moment. He tried to meet her eyes, but her eyes were trapped in a staring contest with her shoes. He could also see a slight tremble in her hands as she picked up her pencil once more to doodle in her notebook whilst pushing her glasses up her nose.
