The sun drenched the room in light as the two teenagers were still fully asleep on the couch, smothered in blankets. Luna was the first to wake, fluttering her eyes open slowly and lifting her head from Ryland's shoulder. She stretched and rubbed her eyes and scanned the familiar room. She stood up and stretched once again and made her way to the kitchen to find something to eat.
She peeked in the cupboards to find some Lucky Charms and made her way to the fridge to find some almost spoiled milk. She shrugged, not really caring since it wasn't spoiled just yet, and made a mental note to run to the supermarket when she could.
This was a lot for her to handle, living almost completely by herself, feeling taunted by the fact that she was supposed to be a normal high school student who lives with her mom and dad and not have to worry about making supermarket runs or of she had enough food to get her through a week. She didn't want to have to worry about such "adult" things at this age, she already had enough stress with school alone.
Ryland soon woke up after not feeling Luna's head on his shoulder anymore. He too stretched and rubbed his eyes in attempt to get the sleep out of them. He heard the light clatter of ceramic against one another and already knew that Luna was making herself breakfast. He padded into the kitchen, hair a mess, and eyes still ridden with sleep.
"Hey, selfish, not going to make me any?" Ryland questioned, his voice raspy and tired.
"Listen beast boy, you are fully capable of hunting something down." Luna replied lazily with a small smile, she too was still exhausted.
"Rude, I don't like getting my hands dirty. That's gross." Ryland snapped back playfully, he too wearing a smile on his face.
Ryland looked at his best friend. Her brown curly hair was a mess around her shoulders and her green eyes were being shown with the company of dark circles. Her head was slumped into her left hand as her elbow rested on the island. Her right hand held her spoon which was stuck in her bowl in attempts to get a rainbow shaped marshmallow.
"What's the plan for today?" Luna asked, shoveling another spoonful of Lucky Charms into her mouth.
"I wanted to get some shots in, I want to fill in my portfolio more." Ryland suggested, fixing himself a bowl of Lucky Charms too.
Luna nodded, knowing the drill since they have been doing this type of thing for ages. Ryland has a burning passion for all things photography and filmography. They would go out on the weekends and she would attempt to model for him and even attempt acting at some points.
"When I finish, I'll get an outfit together for you and we can grab a coffee and then head out to the park. It's still overcast so the shots will look great. Oh, I just have to stop at home to grab my camera, that won't take long." Ryland said getting excited to pick up his camera and shoot.
"This is why all high schoolers are broke, it's because we spend it on expensive coffees." Luna mumbled under breath.
Of course Ryland heard her and laughed softly at her comment, knowing that that was a yes. He put his now empty bowl into the sink and made his way to Luna's bedroom to pick out her outfit. This left Luna alone in her kitchen to finish her cereal in silence.
She thought of the boy from the library yesterday, mentally scolding herself for being too awkward in handling the situation. This was only a fleeting thought as she heard Ryland call for her from her bedroom, signaling her to finish up and get dressed for the day. She sloppily cleaned up her bowl and put it in the sink and then made her way up the stairs and into her bedroom to see Ryland with a grin on his face.
She peered onto her bed to see an outfit laid out on her white quilt and sighed a little bit. What Ryland had picked out was a pair of ripped mom jeans and a loose striped long sleeve along with a black belt.
