As the waves of pain and horrible cracking sounds finally came to an end the stark terror I felt was quickly replaced by confusion as I tried to stand from where I had been curled screaming and crying on the forest floor.

I looked down at myself in disbelief, trying to understand what I was seeing.

Fur?

Paws?

The sudden realization that my vision was now completely normal suddenly caught my attention as my eyes darted all around me. Even though I was practically blind before in the pitch black forest, the light of the crescent moon lit up my surroundings as though it were the middle of the day now.

I flinched at the sound of an owl hooting softly nearby and felt the strange sensation of my ears rotating to pinpoint the owl's location. My eyes soon found its wide, unblinking ones and I felt my jaw drop in surprise when I realized it was many yards away and not above me like I had first thought.

My ears continued twitching and turning at the sudden symphony of sounds as my eyes gazed wondrously at the previously hidden world of the nighttime forest that surrounded me. Only one thought raced through my mind.

'What happened to me?'
