Chapter 8

Lauren's POV

I hadn't realized I had fallen asleep until I felt someone shaking my shoulder. My eyes shot open I looked at the person shaking my shoulder. It was Hailee. "Girl when was the last time you got decent sleep?" she asked. "Uuh? Three months ago.?" I said. "Girl! What. The. Hell. Is. Wrong. With. You." She said as she beat the crap out of me with some papers. "Ow. Shit Hailee stop it Jesus" I said giggling. She stopped hitting me and I looked at the time. It was just about time for me to feed Karla. So, I got up and pressed the nurse's button. Then turn to Hailee. "What is all that by the way?" "The thing I need to talk to you and Dinah about." She said. "Listen Haiz if that's my Juvenal record. That was cleared when I turned 18." I said holding my hands up. Then one of the nurses came over the speaker. "This nurse Joe what can I do for you this evening?" he asked. "Hi Joe. Can you send Nurse Sofia to room 727? I need to feed my daughter." I said.

"Alright Ma'am I will send her your way now." He said. She laughed. "No, it's not your Juvenal record. Though I have seen it impressive might I add." I smirked proudly and nodded my head. "When is Dinah coming?" Hailee asked taking a seat. "Her and Mani went to get dinner. They should be here soon." I said. Sofia came in "Hey Haiz. How's the baby doin? Ready to feed the little one Laur?" I nod my head. "The baby is doing good." Hailee said rubbing her belly. I reached over and rubbed her belly and smiled. Sofia started to unhook Karla from all the tubes and wires. Some of the machines started to beep Sofia turned them off. "Wait you feed her? I thought she had a feeding tube?" Hailee asked. I looked at her and blushed. Sofia started giggling. "Did I missed something?" Hailee said. "Turn around for a minute." I said. "Okay?" She said and turned to the door.

I lifted my shirt and unclipped one of my bra straps. Sofia picked up Karla and turned her towards me. For the first time since being in the hospital the infant was awake. When her eye met mine, she instantly started to wiggle around and whining in Sofia's arms. "Awe looks like someone really wants her mami." Sofia said. When she was in my arms, she laid her head over my heart. Instead of nursing right away she just laid on my chest. A few minutes later I pulled her away from my chest and looked at her "quieres comer ahora niña?" (You want to eat now baby girl?) that was more of a rhetorical question of course she wants to eat. I moved so she was able to latch on but in a comfortable position for both of us.

I put a cloth over Karla and I to kinda shield my somewhat exposed breast. "Ok Hailee you can turn around now." I said. Hailee turned around at first, she looked shocked but after the initial shock she looked at me and smiled at us. "Now this is quite the sight to see. The big and bad hard ass Captain. Turned into hardcore softy." Hailee said mockingly, and Sofia giggled. With my free hand I gave them both the middle finger and straight face. The two of them burst out laughing. A few seconds later the door opened and Normani and Dinah appeared from behind the door. "Hi Ms. Hailee!" Mani said excitedly. "Hey munchkin." She said and went to give her a hug "Hi. Auntie Sofi." She said "Hola sweetheart." And then they came over to me and Karla. "Hi Mami. Hi baby Cami." She said hugging my side and then she genially placed a kiss on Karla's small hand. "Mani why did you call Karla Cami?" I asked.

"I thought it would be easier for Mani to call Karla by her middle name. She decided on Cami as her nickname." Dinah said. "Oh, okay I like kinda like Camila better then Karla anyway. Excellent job Manibear I love it." I said with a smile. She started giggling. "Momma I eat now?" Normani asked Dinah. When she heard our foster daughters voice, she snapped out her thoughts. I looked at her and she looked at me with these eyes that broke my heart. "Sure, thing Baby cakes let's eat." She said set up a table and chair for Mani. She sat down next to me and just shook her head.

Dinah's POV.

I looked over at Lauren with sad eyes. "What's up babe?" She asked. "I need to tell you and Hailee something. But I don't want Mani in the room." I said. "I can take her down to Daya she gets off soon and I'm going on my break after Lauren is done feeding Camila. Davis's dad drops him off around this time." Sofia said. "Wait what happened with Z and Leo?" I asked. "They got divorced." She said. Lauren, Hailee and I's jaws dropped. "WHAT?!" We said in unison. "Yeah, like five months ago. It wasn't pretty either. She filed for divorce and got full custody of Davis." Sofia said. "Oooo there's tea to spill." I said trying to distract my mind. "There is. Ok hold up let me text Daya to get Mani." She said quickly typing a text.

"Ok, so turns out Leo has another kid with Olivia." She said. "Wait Olivia H?" Lauren asked. "Yes Olivia H. Her son Matthew is little younger than Davis. So, that means it's been going on for longer than a few months." She said. "I'm gonna give that boy a Polly beat down next time I see him." I said. "Trust me he got a nice ass kicking when Tom found out." She said. "Wait who the hell Tom?" Lauren asked. "Remember Tom? The really quite British kid from like Elementary school. The one that would follow Zendaya around everywhere. Anyway, he is now her current boyfriend. Better dad to Davis and Matthew then Leo will ever be." Sofia said.

"Oh, shit yeah I remember him. So, Tom is taking care of both boys?" Lauren asked. "Well Leo has become someone else and Olivia didn't want Matthew around him either. So, along with the divorce from Zendaya and fighting for custody of Davis. He was also fighting for custody of Matthew as well. He lost both boys. Now Leo only gets them for a few hours after daycare and weekends if he decides to show up." Sofia said. "Hold up wait why are we just now hearing about all this. For God's sake I see her like every other freaking day. She never said anything about her and Leo." I said.

"She didn't want to tell anyone. I only know because he started an argument in the lobby a few weeks ago. I just happened to be walking through because I just got off work. Security escorted him out and Z was in tears. I got her settled down and she told me everything." She said. "Well, ain't that some shit." I said. Then Zendaya and Davis walked in. "Hey Zendaya. Hey Davis." The four of us said in unison. "MISS. DAYA! DAVEY!" Mani shouted happily wiggling in her seat. "MANI!!" Davis shouted and ran over to her and hugged her. "Hey everyone. Hey love bug." She walked over to her and picked her up. "What's going on guys Sofi texted me. She asked If I wouldn't mind taking Normani for little while?" She said.

"Yeah. I need to talk to Lauren and Hailee about something. I don't want her to hear it." I said. "I see. No worries, DJ she's in good hands. We'll be down at the hospital playground. Just shoot me a text when you want me to bring her back." She said. "Thanks Z." I said getting up and hugging her. "No problem. Is there anything I need for her? Has she eaten dinner?" she asked. "She just ate dinner. And yeah, here's her diaper bag for you. Has some diapers, wipes and a change of clothes. It's a pain in the butt to put pants on her. So, she only has onesies." I said handing her the diaper bag.

"I bet. When is she getting this thing off?" She asked gently bouncing Normani on her hip. "August 5th." I said. "Thank god. Well give me a ring when you're ready for her." She said I stood up and walked over to them. "Will do. You be good little one. I'll see you in a little while." I said to Normani kissing her forehead. "I will momma. I pwomise." She said. They left, and I sat back down next to Lauren. "So, what do you got to tell us Hailee?" Lauren asked.

She placed papers on the table. "You two can officially adopt little Karla. All her family in Cuba had no Idea she was even born but they won't take her. So, they all signed off on her being adopted." She said. "Are you serious!" Lauren said. "Yep, she is all yours. But you still have to do a couple more home visits. I'd say sometime by Thanksgiving or Christmas you should have your baby girl home safe and sound." She said. Lauren started crying as she held on to Camila a little tighter. She looked at me. "Our baby Dinah." She said. "Our baby Laur. She is our miracle baby." I said taking her little hand in mine. "What did want to tell us Dinah?" Hailee asked. I swallowed hard and looked down at mine and Camila's hands. "She's in a coma." I said with no emotion. "Who is babe?" Lauren asked. "Barbara."
