No One's POV
Lauren opted not to do the walk through. Instead, she started making lunch for everyone. Normani came running into the kitchen. "Mami. Mami." She said attaching herself to Lauren's leg. Lauren smiled softly. "Hola little mama's." Lauren scooped up the toddler and pepper kissed her cheek Normani giggled happily. Lauren placed the toddler on the counter "You wanna help mami make lunch for mama and auntie Hailee?" Lauren the young girl. "Es pwease." Normani nodded.
Lauren had been teaching Normani Spanish before she distanced herself. Today she decided try and overcome her grief. "Can you tell Mami what this is in Spanish?" Lauren asked and held up a sandwich. "Emparedado" She said. "Very good and what's this?" Lauren asked holding up some veggies. "Verduras." Normani said. "That's right baby." Lauren said. She kissed Normani's cheek. The two were finishing up plating the food when Normani spoke up. "Mami?" She asked. "Yeah baby?" She said. "Who Rio?" The toddler asked. Lauren stopped what she was doing and looked at the young girl. "Where did you hear that name?" Lauren asked a little to sternly. Normani flinched and fiddled with her shirt. "Where did you hear that name Normani?" Lauren asked again.
Normani's eyes began to well up with tears. "I sowwy mami. I I just heawd momma in in dat woom nest to to Cami's. Asting someone n-named Wio. If if he sent me an Cami to to you an momma. An an if it was otay that you and mama give me an Cami ouw foevew home. Pease pease d-don't be m-mad." Normani began to sob. Lauren quickly snapped out of it. "Oh, baby I'm so so sorry mami scared you." Lauren said scooping up the toddler and rocked her back and forth. "I'm so sorry baby girl." She whispered in the toddler's ear softly. The young girl began to calm down. Once she stopped crying Lauren placed her back on the counter and whipped away her tears. "Momma and I will tell you and Camila when you're both older okay baby? Right now, it's just too soon for momma and I to talk about." Lauren said.
"Otay mami." Normani said nodding and reached for her mother. Feeling bad for snapping at the child Lauren picked her up once again placed her on her hip. Lauren wrapped up the lunches and put them in the fridge. "Mami?" Normani asked lightly pulling on Laurens shirt. "Hungry love bug?" She asked. The 2-year-old nodded and nuzzles into her mother's chest. "Okay baby girl. Let's get you some yummy milk." Lauren said and went living room. She sat down with the toddler in her lap. She pulled down her shirt and unclipped her bra. The toddler latched on and started suckling when Dinah and Hailee walk into the room.
"Normani's room looks great and Camila's Nursery look great. Car seat's, high chair's, food which I was not worried about, bottles, pacifiers, diapers, wipes, house is child proof, I see you guys have recently enrolled Normani into daycare, and oh I'm sorry." She said. Lauren and Dinah laughed. "Normani breast feeds?" She asked slightly confused. "Yeah, when she saw Camila breast feeding, she wanted some to. It has honestly helped a lot." Lauren said. "Well okay I can't argue with mama bear. Now, Lauren you are slowly getting back to work?" Hailee said. Lauren nodded.
"Yeah, very slowly." Lauren said rubbing the toddlers back. "Prefect. I see you guys are still taking Mani to see her grandmother. Who is now in a 55 and older community?" Hailee asked. "Yeah, after she had recovered from the heart attacks and the coma. Doctors thought it was best that she lives in a Nursing home. But she opted not to because she wanted to be able to have Normani over for the weekends. So, we found a good medium where Normani will be able to stay with her on the weekends and she'll still be getting the assistance she needs." Dinah said.
"I've already talked everything over with her lawyers. Barbra would like Dinah and I to have full custody of Normani. All she asks is that Normani goes over on the weekends. Which is not a problem at all. Of course, we want her to have a relationship with her grandmother. Barbra is the only person she has left from her birth parents." Lauren said. "All wonderful things I'm hearing." Hailee said happily and takes out a few papers and shut her note pad placing it in her lap. "Sign these." She said. Both
*30 minutes later*
Normani had fallen asleep. "Congratulations guys. You have officially passed your home visits. Now all I have to do is turn those into the Judge he or she will look them over and I will give you a call for a court date." Hailee said. They all stood up and hugged. "I'm so happy for you guys you have no idea." She said with a smile. "Thank you Haiz." They said. "Your welcome loves. Let me go so I can these papers in the system." She said. Lauren and Dinah looked at each other than down at their sleeping foster daughter. "This is really happening?" Lauren asked Hailee hesitantly. Hailee set her bag down and walked over to her she places her hands on Lauren's forearms. "Yes Lauren. This is really happening and I honestly cannot think of two better people it could be happening to." She said.
Lauren nodded and looked down. "She asked about Rio." Over the last month Lauren had really distant herself from Dinah, Normani and even baby Camila. Dinah couldn't pin point why she tried. She looked through Lauren's phone, laptop, emails, texts, etc. Nothing was an indication of why Lauren was acting so distant. It was at this point it hit her. It was a year ago to the day that Lauren had given birth to their son.
*Flashback April of 2017*
Dinah's POV
"Lauren baby what's wrong?" I asked my wife who was holding her stomach tight and crying. "I don't know but it hurts Dinah" Lauren said. I got on my knees and gently touched her stomach she screamed out in pain the moment my fingers touched her. I knew then something was really wrong. I picked her and went out to the car. I helped her into the passenger seat of my squad car and I shut the door and ran over to the driver side and got in. I started the car, turned on the sirens and drove to the hospital. I pulled up to the emergency room and quickly got out of my car. "HURRY PLEASE SOMEONE GET ME A WHEELCHAIR OR A STRETCHER!" I went to the passenger side and got Lauren out. A team of nurses came out with a stretcher. I got her on it and held her hand as they made their way back into the ED.
They cut open Lauren's shirt to make sure there was no external wounds. They pressed on her stomach and she screamed out. They went and got a sonogram of her stomach to see if there was internal bleeding or kidney stones. When the picture came up it was clear as day there he was. Foot pressing on his Mami's ribs. I started to tear up. "Awe Congratulations Laur you're a mommy" Ashley said happily. "What there's no fucking way I'm pregnant! I'm on the pill." Lauren said. "Baby look at the sonogram." I said and pointed at the screen. She looked at the screen and started to cry. "Oh my god I'm pregnant." She said. I got up and placed my hands on her cheeks and kissed her. "I love you so much Laur." I whispered against her lips.
*November 14th 2017*
No One's POV
Lauren woke up because her mommy bear instincts were screaming in her. She got up and looked at the baby monitor and looked at her clock. "2 am? I should be feeding him" She said. 'Something doesn't feel right' Lauren thought to herself. Lauren grabbed her phone and went to the nursery. She gently rubbed the infant's stomach and looked down at him. She noticed he looked not like himself. Instead of going into complete panic mode she quickly picked him and started CPR on the infant. When she realized it wasn't working, she then began to panic. "OH MY GOD MY BABY!" Lauren dialed 911 as fast as she could. Continuing CPR on her son.
*Phone call*
911 operator: 911 what's your emergency.
Lauren: THIS IS CAPTIN LAUREN JAUREGUI-HANSEN. I NEED A BUS TO MY HOUSE NOW AND MY WIFE SERGEANT DINAH JANE JAUREGUI-HANSEN
911 operator: Yes, ma'am we have a bus in route now.
Lauren: OH MY GOD MY BABY. RIO PLEASE BABY WAKE UP FOR MOMMY.
*Phone call ends*
*Phone call from Wife 💞*
Dinah: Baby what's going on?
Lauren: *screams and cries* HES DEAD OH MY GOD
Dinah: WHAT!? Who's dead Lauren? Babe talk to me.
Lauren: RIO!
Dinah feels her heart drop. She speeds to her home
When Dinah arrives to the house all she sees is lights. She pushed through the firefighters and EMT's in her home. She looked around she saw their son laying lifeless on a stretcher an EMT attempting CPR and another stand by with the paddles. Lauren was standing by crying. It felt like everything was moving in slow motion noises fading as she got closer to her wife. Lauren made eye contact with Dinah and ran over wrapping her arms around Dinah.
