Chapter 9

No One's POV

The room went silent. "I just wish these girls could catch a break," Dinah said. Hailee stood up "And they will." She left the room. Dinah and Lauren were left to their thoughts. Sofia came back in minutes later. "Listen I get Haiz is hormonal but remind me not to get on her bad side. Whoa hey what's going on y'all look like you lost the lottery." She said. She burped the infant and placed her back into the incubator hooking back up the monitors. "It's Normani's grandmother. They had to put her in a medically induced coma." Dinah said. Sofia stopped in her tracks and turns just slightly towards the girls. "What?!" She said in shock. Lauren and Dinah nodded. Sofia sat down in defeat. "What's gonna happen to Normani now?" She asked. "Well, one of two things can happen. One we'll be able to adopt her or two she'll becomes a ward of the state and be placed into a different foster home until we can adopt her. We will just have to wait and see what Hailee comes up with." Lauren said.

*August 5th*

Dinah's POV

"Momma look at me!" Normani shouted from across the playground. I looked up at her to see her come down the slide. "Hamilton?" A nurse called out. I picked up my silly little toddler. "Right here," I said walking up to the nurse. "Right this way," She said. We followed her into the back. "Go on ahead and set her on the examination table for me." She said. I set Mani on the table. the nurse checks her vitals. "You look healthy to me. What brings you in little one?" The nurse asked. "I gets my stupid casts off today," Normani said. "Oh, I see. Big day huh?" The nurse said with a chuckle. Normani nodded excitedly. "Do you think she'll need PT?" I asked the nurse. "I'm going to say yes only because of location of the break. She's probably going to need a boot for a while and PT. But don't worry she'll be able to walk around no problem. The doctor will be right in to explain everything and take that off" She said and left. "Momma, does dis mean I get to wear big girl undies again?" Normani asked. "Yes, it does baby. Momma even brought you a pair." I said.

For the last week and a half, she has been asking when she will be able to wear a underwear again because she hates wearing the diaper because she's not a baby. It's been a rough week temper tantrum, attitudes, sass, the whole nine. "YAAY!" Normani shouted.

*Knock knock*

The doctor entered. "Well, someone is excited." He said. "Es I get dis off and I get to wear my BIG GIRL UNDIES AGAIN!" Normani shouted. The doctor and I chuckled "Well let's get this off you then huh?" The doctor said. He passed me a pair of noise canceling headphones for myself and Normani. I put them over her ears and mine then doctor proceeded. He started to cut the cast off and Normani started to giggle. Once it was off, I took off our headphones. "That tickles!" Normani giggled. "That's a good sign," the doctor said. He examined her leg. "Does that hurt?" He moved her legs. "Ouchie!" Normani cried. "Just what I expected. Her leg is healed but it's not fully healed. I'm going to give her a boot so she will be able to walk around by herself. I do suggest PT when the boot is off but other than that everything looks great." He said. "That's great thank you so much." I stuck out my hand. He shook My hand. "Be right back with her boot." He left and I turned to Normani. "Let's get these big girl undies on you." I said. Normani danced and laid on her back. I quickly changed her into her underwear and a pair of shorts and sat her up. "I a big girl now," She said happily and I smiled. "That's right." The doctor came in and put the boot on her leg. I stood her on the floor and she started to walk around. "Perfect," I said happily. Normani walked over to me and gave me a big hug. "Tank you, momma." I picked her up and left the office. I got Normani buckled in her car seat and headed over to the hospital to see Lauren and Camila.

We get there and I get Normani out and set her down she takes my hand and we walk into the hospital. "GET THE HELL AWAY FROM MY SON LEO!" I heard Zendaya shouted. "HE'S MY SON TO YOU BITCH!" Leo shouted back. "NO, HE'S NOT! HE'S 2 FUCKING YEARS OLD HOW COULD YOU DO THIS!" Zendaya shouted. I looked over at O'Brien who was ready with a stun gun. "Hey, O'Brien what the hell is going on why aren't you doing anything?" I asked. "I called for backup but I'm still waiting." He said. I rolled my eyes. "You know what just watch Mani for a second," I said and hand her over to him. I walked over to the shouting. "Daya everything okay?" I asked calmly. "No Dinah, nothing about this is okay. Please get him the hell out of here." She said. "What's going on Z. I need a valid reason to take him out of here you know that," I said. "He's been abusing my son." She said and started crying. "I didn't lay a hand on that little shit." He said.

I grabbed Leo by the collar of his shirt and push him against the wall. I instantly smelt alcohol on his breath. "That little shit has a name and his name is Davis and he's, my nephew." I pushed him into a chair. "Don't. Move." I said. I went over to Davis. I could tell something wasn't right. "Davis, you wanna tell auntie DJ what's been goin on?" I asked softly. "Daddy Leo has been hitting me and he's been really mean to Matty." He choked out.

"Why has he been hitting you and been really mean to Matty? Have you and Matty been bad? Did you and Matty do something bad?" I asked knowing the answer. "No auntie I been a good boy and Matty is wittle. Daddy Leo gets mad ats me an Matty when we don't eat all our foods and when wes accidentally wet the bed or when we weave a toy out cause we wanna to pway wif it. And he gets weally mad when I frow up cause he makes me eats too much." He said and looks down. "Davey, do you mind if I take a look?" I asked. He shook his head and stood up. I lifted his shirt and saw fresh and old bruises. I put his shirt back down and kissed his forehead.

I walked over to Leo grabbed him by his shirt and lifted him up onto his feet and cuffed him. "Leo Richard Howard you are under arrest for two counts of child abuse, two counts of child neglect, two counts of reckless endangerment and alcohol abuse. You have the right to remain silent anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law. You have the right to an Attorney. If you do not have an Attorney, you will be awarded one by the state." I read him his rights and walked him out to the squad car. I put him in and went back into the hospital and grabbed Mani from Dylan. "Don't let Nick let him go so easily. Give him the full punishment." I said walked back over to Zendaya and hugged her.
