Leo’s POV

Leo was taking a walk around camp. He had gotten sick of being the seventh wheel, and had decided to leave the super happy sing along bull shit. The saddest part is that no one even noticed that he was gone. Everyone was extra romantic, and they always tried to include Leo but seeing them together was like rubbing salt into the wound. Annabeth and Percy were really going at it. Leo thought, as he approached the beach. As he looked out onto the ocean, he saw a boy sitting further up the sand, a towel in hand. Nico… He must be waiting for Percy. Leo thought, and he felt a pang in his chest. If anyone knew what it felt like to be abandoned and forgotten, it was Leo. Despite how he felt, Leo put a smile on his face and walked down the beach. I have to make him smile. It hurts to much to see him like this. Leo thought, imagining Nico’s rare smile. Leo thought that Nico’s smile was like the sun peeking through on a cloudy day. As Leo got closer and closer, he became more determined to make him smile.

Nico’s POV

Nico was kneeling before the surf, a towel in his hand. I can’t believe Percy forgot about me. Nico thought, tears threatening to spill over his cheeks. The worst part was that Nico had let himself, even if it was just for a second that, he had a chance. That Percy saw he as more than a friend. Nico hated himself for even considering it. The more Nico thought about his unrequited feelings, the worse he felt. Despite Nico’s best efforts to keep his tears at bay, hot droplets spilled down his cheeks and landed on the dry sand. He hugged his knees tighter, and rested his chin on top of his knees. His body trembled as his tears increased turning his breaths into sobs. Nico then heard someone’s footsteps behind him, and quickly wiped his eyes, and controlled his breathing. Percy finally came, he didn’t forget about me. Nico thought before turning around and seeing Leo approaching him a smile on his face. Damnit not again. Nico thought as his hopes plummeted a second time.

“What are you doing here?” Nico said, a scowl on his face. He was trying to be intimidating, but his face was still blotchy from crying.

“Guess I wasn’t the first person you wanted to see.” Leo said putting his hands up in mock surrender. No one ever saw Nico cry, so there was an awkward silence between the two boys. Even after they had saved Nico, he had never let anyone see him cry. He didn’t want anyone to pity him more than they already did. Leo then started taking off his shirt.

“What the hades are you doing!” Nico exclaimed, the color red clearly showing on his pale face.

“You were getting swimming lessons right? I might not be the son of Poseidon, but I won’t let you die.” Leo said, flashing a grin and a thumbs up at the end. That’s reassuring. Nico thought letting a smirk surface on his face. Leo pulled his shirt up and over his head. Nico was surprised at how attractive Leo was. Leo wasn’t nearly as muscular as Percy, but there was something Leo had that Percy didn’t. Nico wasn’t sure what that was, but regardless of his reasons, Nico continued to stare. His skin looks so smooth. I wonder if it’s soft to the touch. Nico thought. He then wondered what it would feel like to run his fingers down his chest, maybe even keep going… Nico’s thoughts were interrupted when Leo cleared his throat.

“Well… Let’s try not to die.” Leo said, and then proceeded to pick Nico up bridal style. Then Leo started running towards the beach.

“Oh my gods Leo, What the fuck are you doing?” Nico excalmed, thrashing around in Leo’s grip. This is it, I’m gonna die here. Nico diAngelo, closet king. Nico thought as they entered the never ending ocean. When they got past the crashing waves, Leo finally put Nico down. Both boys were panting, one from running through the surf, and the other form having a fit of panic. Leo rubbed his hands together. “Let’s get started.” Leo said, and started swimming Tarzan-style. Nico couldn’t help, but compare Leo’s thrashing to Percy’s graceful strokes.

“What are you smirking at?” Leo said, he had stopped swimming and was now standing with his hands on hips. This made Nico exaggerate his smirk even more, and cross his arms as well. Leo pretended to be upset and crossed his arms and stuck his lips out. He’s so cute when he is pouting. Nico thought, and then shook his head. Don’t I like Percy. Nico thought and was knocked out of his train of thought by water hitting his face. Nico opened his mouth in surprise, feeling fat droplets spilling down his face. He blinked a few times before glaring at Leo, who was doubled over in a fit of laughter.

“Leo Valdez, prepare for the wrath of Nico diAngelo.” Nico yelled giving Leo a look that would have made Hades himself shudder. Nico then splashed at Leo, who was still in his own world overcome with laughter. Leo was so surprised that was knocked back falling into the water. Leo then broke the surface, and proceeded to cough up water.

“Are you okay?” Nico asked, for the first time in a while the clouds spread and a genuine smile appeared on his face.

“I’m ok now, I accomplished my goal.” Leo said winking suggestively. What does that mean? Nico thought. Suddenly, a voice called from the shore. “Curfew is in 15 minutes.” the person called, and Leo and Nico sprinted back to their cabins.\
