Chapter 29- The Hunters and the Hunted: Part Three

We started walking through the trees.

"Should we go around the island first, or scout out the middle of it first?" I asked.

"Hmm... Let's go on the outside first. Most of the other applicants will want to stay in the inner part of the island so they can have some cover from the other applicants. We should see if a river leads inland and follow it from there." He pointed as he talked. I just nodded and followed him. I shouldn't be surprised at his expertise in survival.

We walked along the outside quietly for a little bit. When we found the start of a river, we headed inland. By that time, it had started to get dark.

"We should find a place to rest," I suggested.

"You go ahead. I'm going to stay up."

"Are you sure? I can keep watch if you want."

He shook his head. "I'll keep watch. You can rest tonight. Come on, let's find a- hey! Just our luck!" He pointed to a tree with its roots twisted into a bowl. I climbed right in and curled up into a ball, pulling my cloak around me for warmth. I looked up at Killua, who was sitting on the edge of a root. He set his skateboard beside him, leaning on the tree root. I watched him glance around until I finally fell asleep.

I woke up on my stomach, sprawled out on the ground.

"Wow, you really flop a lot," said a voice. I looked up to see Killua watching me with amusement.

"Yeah, it's a curse," I reply. I get up and brush off my cloak and uniform. Oh man, I'm still in my uniform!? That's right, I never changed out of it. I put my hand to my chin and wondered if I should change out of it. But then again, it'd be weird if I changed clothes and I obviously don't have a second outfit on hand, so I decided to just stay in my uniform.

"You ready to head out?" He jumped off the root and grabbed his skateboard, then turned to look at me. I crawled out of the bowl and stood up, facing him.

He started to walk down the river again and I followed. We kept walking until we found a lake.

"This must be where the river ends, I guess," Killua commented. I nodded. "Why don't we stay here for the day. We can get some fish to eat. Why don't you get the fish, and I'll go grab us some berries or whatever grows here that's edible." I nodded again and took off my cloak, setting it on a tree branch. He set his skateboard against the tree holding my cloak. He walked off into the woods, leaving me to my devices.

I took off my shoes and socks, leaving them by the tree. I hit the ground with my foot once, sending a ripple out through the ground, letting me see my surroundings. I didn't see anyone except for one guy. He was walking in the direction of Killua. I left him be. Killua could take care of him. As long as I was alone. I slipped into the water, my dress just barely above the water. I felt the water flow around my legs and I felt the fish that were swimming around underneath me.

"Sorry little fishes, I need you to feed me..." I whispered. I punched my left hand into my right palm, switching into my water outfit. I use my powers to move the water containing some fish onto the bank, then release it so the fish are left flapping on the bank. I then take my water, freeze it to a point, then stab every fish in its heart. I unfreeze the water and put it back into the lake. I climb out of the lake, switching back into my maid uniform.

I gathered some nearby rocks and set them in a circle. I put the fish next to the circle, then wandered about looking for some small sticks to start a fire. Once I got those, I got some bigger sticks and logs from dead trees. Once I had everything ready, I quickly requiped into my fire outfit and started a fire. I reverted just as Killua came back, carrying some blackberries in his shirt.
