DELILAH
1...2...3...
The car pulled out of the driveway.
Now was my chance.
I changed into the most comfortable set of clothes that I had, placing my hair up in a bun before I started packing. There wasn't much I'd be taking, just some clothes and money. I'd buy more when I found a job and found a place to stay.
There is nothing worse in life than feeling stuck. And for the past two years that's exactly how I felt. Like my feet were moving but I was getting nowhere.
Maybe it was to be expected. I was nineteen with a two year old son and though at first I thought I was strong enough, now I realized that it was too much.
I needed an out.
There has to be something fucked up in my brain if the thought of leaving everything behind excited me.
Why didn't I feel bad?
Why did this make me feel free?
With a trembling hand, I took a pen and a sheet of paper, scribbling down the only words that I could.
Liam,
I can't do this. I'm so sorry.
Take care of Adrian for me.
Love,
Delilah
Did it make me a bad person that I didn't even feel like crying?
I heard the honking of a horn and that was my signal. The cab was here. A new life awaited me and I couldn't possibly deny the flooding relief that I felt.
Would I regret this?
Maybe.
But for the time being, I couldn't be a mother. And Adrian, innocent Adrian, deserved a mother that cared for him as he deserved.
I didn't deserve him.
And Liam, I knew he would care for our little boy and make up for the pain I'd be causing right now. Liam was stronger than I would ever be.
He was the only man I would ever come close to ever loving and I was about to lose him by making this decision. There was nothing else to do though, not when I felt like I was suffocating with the life we were living.
"Where to, ma'am?" Asked the cab driver, looking over at me from the rear view mirror.
"The airport, sir."
My nerves disappeared along with my long exhale. This was my time to begin my life how I wanted it. Nothing and no one would ever be able to hold me back.
My feet were no longer stuck.
I could finally move forward.
