DELILAH
The brightness of the sun woke me up. My eyes fluttered open to find myself in Liam's bedroom, covered by the soft sheets. I heard him on the phone and by the sound of his voice, there was still no news on Adrian. I didn't even realize I'd fallen asleep. Everything hurt. It was as if the situation was literally making me sick, even in the physical sense.
"Hey," Liam said, sitting down next to me. He looked tired. It was obvious sleep had evaded him. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired," I replied. "Any news?"
"None," he sighed. "Chris, Jo and Carissa have been placing flyers throughout the city but no one has seen him. There's nothing."
Not able to ignore the sadness in his eyes, I curled into his chest. His arms went around me immediately while he rested one of his hands in the back of my head. We held each other for a while, his steady heartbeat proving to soothe the anxiety welling up in me.
"I need to go to the shop," he murmured. "It'll just be a couple of hours. I need to leave a couple of things settled before handing it over to Chris until all this passes."
I nodded into his chest without letting him go. "Do you want to stay here?"
"Please."
He gave a small smile and placed a kiss on my forehead before leaving. I took advantage of the fact that I was at his house to print even more flyers and to post Adrian's picture on social media. I kept looking out the window hoping that by some miracle, he'd appear there and say that he got lost.
He never showed up.
After texting with everyone, it turned out that no one had spotted Adrian anywhere. It wasn't possible that he disappeared like that, he had to be somewhere. I refused to think that something happened to him. He had to be okay.
I gathered my purse and the flyers when there was a knock at the door. I rushed, hoping that it was something regarding Adrian.
My dad and fuming mother were at the door.
"Daddy," I said, hugging him. He embraced me, whispering soothing words to calm my now trembling body down.
"It's okay, darling. We'll find him, you'll see."
"I was just about to go hand out flyers," I said, wiping away my tears. My mom looked unimpressed, leaning against the doorway. "Hi, mom."
She shook her head taking in my appearance. I looked like shit, of that I was sure. But, is there really any other way that I could look? My only worry was to find Adrian, nothing else mattered. Not food, not sleeping, it all came second to finding him safe.
"We'll go with you," my dad said with a sad smile.
I nodded, happy that I wouldn't have to be alone. After shooting Liam a quick text letting him know where we would be, I got into the car with my parents.
