LIAM

She was nervous.

I could see it in the way she tapped her foot on the floor and the way she played with the necklace I'd given her. Delilah never took it off, even in the midst of all the problems.

She'd told me the day before that she was terrified that because of the stress we had been under there wouldn't be a heartbeat for the baby. She'd almost broken down at the thought.

It had been five days without holding her at nights, barely touching her. Barely hugging her other than as good night and a good morning. It was proving to be much more difficult than expected. Having her so close and yet having to keep my distance, not easy.

Especially now that I knew that she was pregnant, I wanted to shower her with kisses and hold her close to me all the damn time.

She was right though, just the days we'd spent relatively apart helped put everything into perspective. The grudge I held was there and it probably would be for a while and that was something I needed to work on. Not just for our family, but for my own sake.

I took Delilah's hand in mine, squeezing it. For this moment I'd forget about the rules.

I leaned in, nuzzling her neck even though we were in the middle of the waiting room as the clinic. Her skin was coated in goosebumps and I smirked, reveling in the fact that my touch still had this effect on her.

"It'll be okay," I murmured, placing a kiss behind her ear.

"I hope so," she whispered.

"You'll see, love."

I felt her relax, her fingers lacing with mine. She held on to that necklace for dear life though. Maybe it was her motherly instinct, but she was uneasy about something.

After a few minutes we were called up and we made our way to the examination room where everything would be checked out. Delilah was pale and I could tell she was battling another bout of nausea. I pulled up a chair next to the examination table where we waited.

Her feet swinging reminded me much of the young girl I knew years before.

"I love you," I said.

She smiled back at me and though she didn't say the words back, I knew that she felt the same way.

Doctor Murphy, walked in, greeting us and immediately sensing Delilah's nerves.

"Don't worry," she smiled, taking a seat next to her. "Is this your first child?"
