Is it just our bodies?
Are we both losing our minds?

Is the only reason you're holding me tonight
'Cause we're scared to be lonely?

DELILAH

The chilly December air reminded me that Christmas was near, only a few days away in fact. Thankfully, I was able to do my Christmas shopping. There wasn't many people I needed to buy for, only Liam, Adrian and Jo. Also, my parents. Though I knew they wouldn't want to see me, I at least wanted to attempt to mend the relationship with them.

Material things wouldn't matter, I understood that now. So as a way of letting them know I thought of them often, I sent them text messages every morning and night, wishing them they'd have a good day and the same when the sun set. They never replied.

I watched Adrian at the playground, enjoying the warmth of the sun that was beginning to hide. Despite the cold air, like any child, he was enjoying himself running around. We were waiting for Liam who had gone home to change after a long day at the shop.

Carissa and I hadn't run into each other at all in the past couple of weeks. The reason was probably the fact that she would always go visit Adrian at Liam's house. The green monster called jealousy always showed up when I knew she was around them. It didn't take a genius to know that she still wanted him.

And Liam and I... We were a whole other issue. We saw each other every day but somehow, it was as if we grew distant. There was a mixture of emotions between us. Every now and then a heated stare would light up a fire between the both of us and as much as I wanted to act on it, there was something in his eyes that stopped me. He was reserved, not wanting to get too close to me.

Something was holding him back.

It wasn't long until I saw Liam from afar walking towards us. I didn't need to see his face to know it was him. He was a humble man yet the way he walked with confidence like he owned the place ever since we were young was what drew me to him. It was deceiving though, when he was angry he was anything but collected.

He wasn't alone though. Two men walked with him towards us. It took me a moment to recognize them, but soon as they neared us, my heart stopped. I recognized Christopher Weston, Liam's friend from high school, but it wasn't his presence that shocked me.

The world truly is a small fucking place.

I saw his eyes narrow in on me when he saw me, soon his face showing pure surprise. I saw him telling Liam something and soon a confused look settled on Liam's face.
