Chapter 1:
"Em, you're staring again," my best friend, Michael, says to me to snap me out of my daze.
"Wh-what. Oh crap," I immediately hide my face under my folded arms on my desk.
"He didn't even notice, don't worry," Michael says with a quiet laugh. I pick my head up off of my arms and look back over at the guy I have a huge crush on, Luke Hemmings. I've liked him for about a couple years now and I can't stop thinking about him. I constantly get lost in those beautiful blue eyes of his. He's friends with Michael and my twin brother, Ashton, so I see him around a lot and that's how my crush on him formed. Michael always teases me about it because I stare at his beautiful face in class quite a lot.
"He's so attractive," I say quietly to myself.
"Emily, Michael, quit chatting over there and finish your work," our teacher, Mr. Wells, scolds us. He's so mean sometimes but we deserved to be yelled at. It kind of woke me up out of my daze so I can control myself finally. I look back at my math page and I finish up the last few problems I have left. Occasionally Michael will look over at my paper and just copy down my answers. I've always let him do that ever since we were kids. We would always copy off of each other's homework papers and even quiz papers too. We haven't even gotten caught once.
"Okay class, I want to go over this worksheet with you all. When I call on you, just give me the answer and I will let you know if it's correct. If it's not then check your work again," Mr. Wells says to all of us. I groan slightly because I hate speaking in front of people.
"Okay, we will start with question one. Emily, what's the answer you got for this one?" Mr. Wells calls on me with that creepy "interested" look on his face. Of course, I get the question that I had a lot of trouble on.
"Uh, X is twenty-two," I read it off of my paper.
"That is incorrect. Check your work again," Mr. Wells says and looks around to find someone else to answer it, then he says ,"Luke, how about you take a stab at this one?"
"Uh, I got twenty-one," Luke says awkwardly and his beautiful talking voice makes me blush a little. He looks at me for a second and I look away in embarassment because he probably thought I was stupid for not knowing the correct answer.
"That's correct!" Mr. Wells says excitedly. I feel so embarassed that I got that answer wrong in front of the boy I'm so in love with.
***********
The bell rings and I immediately get out of my seat and walk out to the lunch tables. I sit down and wait for a few minutes until Michael finally takes a seat next to me with a greasy slice of pizza sitting on a plate on his lunch tray.
"You always get pizza. Why not try something different for a change?" I joke with him.
"Pizza is my favorite thing to eat and I can eat it every day if I want to," he laughs back at me. I rest my elbow onto the table and lean my chin onto my fist.
"I hate math class. That was so embarassing," I say.
"Luke was totally staring back at you though. I honestly think he either likes you or thinks you're pretty. I don't blame him because you really are pretty," Michael says and takes a bite of his pizza.
"I am so not!" I say with a laugh.
"Yeah you are and one day you will realize it," he says with a roll of his eyes. I ignore his constant compliments because I don't believe him one bit. He's my best friend and sometimes it's hard to believe your best friend because you feel like they're just saying it because they have to. All of a sudden I feel a tap on my shoulder and I turn around to see my twin brother, Ashton. We're not identical twins because we look nothing alike. We were just born on the same day. Everyone thinks we're just friends but then they realize we share the same last name.
