Normani's phone rings. She sees her mom's contact pop up on the screen, so she immediately answers it. "Hello?"

"You won't believe who just called me,"

No One's POV

"Who?" Normani asks.

"Vanessa," Andrea says.

"Stop lying," Normani says.

"I'm not lying. She actually just called me," Andrea says.

"Why?" Normani asks.

Andrea shrugs. "I don't know, apparently because she wants to see you,"

"....There's no way you're serious. She said she was dead and sent me a letter saying that she knew it was all going to happen," Normani says.

"From the way she made things sound, this was a very well fabricated lie to help the operation she is or was doing," Andrea says.

"Maybe she's lying for once. Maybe she didn't write that and lie to me," Normani says.

"Look, I wish those letters were fake just as much or more than you do. But it sounds like she's sincerely sorry," Andrea says.

"She...she wrote out two entire letters....the whole point this entire time was to make me believe it?" Normani asks.

"Yes. She wants to see you, so she called me and asked me about you," Andrea says.

"Why is she coming back now? What made her not stay where she was?"

Andrea shrugs once again. "I'm not even sure,"

"Why are you calling me if you're not sure? You could be lying just as well as her," Normani says.

"You're right. I could be, but I'm not," Andrea says. "She called me from a private number."

"Why wouldn't she give you a number to save in case you wanted to call her back?" Normani asks.

"From the sounds of things, she doesn't want to be traced. But she wants to talk to you Mani, she's dying to," Andrea says.

"She should've been "dying to talk to me" when she died," Normani says. "She's dead mom, stop lying to try and convince me because it's not working."

Andrea sighs. "I'm not lying to try and convince you. I'm being serious,"

"So why'd you sigh? Is it because you know you're lying and you're getting tired of trying to make yourself believe your own lie," Normani says.

"You know what, I'm going to let you win this one. But when you find out that I'm not lying, don't call me saying that I didn't tell you," Andrea says.

Normani chuckles. "I most definitely won't be doing that,"

"Saves me some time," Andrea says, hanging up.

"I assume that didn't go too well," Dinah says.

"Not at all," Normani says.

"Well, what'd she say that set you off?" Dinah asks.
