Shaun was listening to Dr. Browne speak, but he saw a gigantic dog jump at her from behind him.
"LOOK OUT!" Shaun interrupted loudly and pushed her out of the way. He braced for impact and got tackled to the ground by the large dog. He landed on the hard floor and bumped his head lightly in the process. It hurt, but not severely.
Once her eyes became clear again, Dr. Browne gasped and got up. Shaun felt the hot breath from something panting on him, and he opened his eyes to the upside down head of a beige and black German Shepherd Collie mix, staring at him.
"That's a huge bitch." Shaun reacted.
"OH, MY GOD! Shaun, are you okay?!" Dr. Browne freaked out, running towards him to help. Shaun stared back at the fairly large dog.
"Hello," Shaun said. The dog barked loudly in return. Shaun tilted his head to the side and watched as the dog did the same thing. After a couple seconds, Shaun pushed the dog's head out of the way and pushed himself back onto his feet.
"Did you hear me?" Dr. Browne asked.
"Are you okay? I'm fine." Shaun replied. Suddenly, the dog jumped up onto its back legs and leaned onto Shaun's shoulders, to get his attention. He grabbed its paws and held them in front of him, imitating a dog dancing with its owner. The dog wagged its tail and continued panting. Shaun watched the dog do this with a blank expression. He eyed up the dog's height.
"He's almost as big as me," Shaun observed. Dr. Browne smiled and walked closer to the dog, and started to pet the dog.
"Aww! Hello, puppy! You're so cute! Yes, you are, yes, you are!" Dr. Browne cheered with a high pitched voice, to make the dog happier and more comfortable. The dog brought it's front paws onto the ground and started getting riled up and excited. Dr. Browne laughed and started moving her index finger in a circular motion above the dog's head. The dog followed her finger and started to spin in a couple circles. Next, Dr. Browne used her hand and brought it up and down, to make the dog jump. The dog did as she signaled, and started barking and jumping higher than her. She received a bigger smile from Shaun and a couple applauses from the people around her. Afterwards, she petted the dog and praised it with a higher-pitched voice once again.
"Why are you talking like that?" Shaun asked. Dr. Browne looked up at him and stopped petting the dog.
"It's a way to help the dog feel more comfortable with someone. You don't have to do it though." Dr. Browne explained.
"If you don't have to, why did you do it?" Shaun asked, eventually feeling the dog's fur in the palm of his hand underneath him.
"Because it's fun sometimes." Dr. Browne replied.
"Okay." Shaun said and started walking towards the MRI room. As he was walking, he assumed Dr. Browne was following him but didn't notice the dog was also following them. However, Dr. Browne noticed. She sneaked a peek at the walking dog and nudged Shaun to get his attention.
"Look behind you." Dr. Browne said quietly. Shaun stopped, turned around and looked at the dog, who was sitting and waiting for Shaun to make a move.
"He's not leaving," Shaun said.
"He seems to like you a lot." Dr. Browne replied. Shaun continued walking. They arrived in the MRI room and Shaun turned to the dog.
"Stay here," Shaun instructed. The dog laid down and whimpered softly. Shaun and Dr. Browne walked into the room, hoping that the dog stays out while they work.Shaun and Dr. Browne took the MRI photos and looked at them on the computer screen in the back. The heart appeared to be okay, but they noticed a minor decrease in synovial fluid in between both her wrists and her ankle. Just to be sure, they took images of the other ankle and noticed no signs of Juvenile Arthritis.
