Shaun could hear Pepper barking and scratching the door as he walked away. He ignored her by walking over to a new patient's room and focusing on the new patient in front of him. He managed to stay focused on every task assigned to him, but the dog kept coming back to his mind whenever he was taking a break or waiting for results. He considered visiting Pepper many times, but he figured she could survive a little longer without him. Besides, he's not even her owner. He's just taking care of her until the owner is found.

Dr. Browne checked up on Shaun every now and then, to make sure he was making the right choices and communicating properly with the patients. At one point, a situation broke out, where Dr. Browne had to calm down a pissed off parent because they didn't believe Shaun gave their son the right prescription. It was later revealed that Shaun was correct about the prescription, and that the parent was oblivious to his need for new glasses. When 5:30 rolled around, Shaun decided to take a well-deserved break and visit Dr. Glassman and Pepper. He walked up to his office and knocked on the door. Suddenly, the dog erupted into fairly loud barks and started scratching the door frantically once again. Shaun gasped, jumping and nearly covering his ears out of fear. He quickly opened the door and shut it just as fast.

"Shaun...when there is a dog in here, which there probably won't be ever again, please don't knock on the door. You know that most dogs bark at doorbells and knocks." Dr. Glassman said, sternly from being jump scared himself. Shaun nodded and started petting Pepper, who was wagging her tail beside him.

"So, how was your day Shaun?" Dr. Glassman asked.

"It was fine. I did scutwork. Dr. Browne's tired now." Shaun explained.

"What? Why did you do scutwork again? Were you late to work?" Dr. Glassman asked. Shaun shook his head.

"No. I chose to. Dr. Browne was alone." Shaun explained.

"Oh. did anything interesting happen?" Dr. Glassman asked, trying to make conversation.

"No," Shaun said, scratching Pepper's ear. Half an hour later, someone knocked on the door.

BARK BARK! BARK-BARK-BARK-BARK-BARK-BARK!

Shaun and Dr. Glassman jumped and screamed at the same time.

"That's loud!" Shaun yelled, covering his ears. The door opened, revealing Dr. Melendez with a very surprised face.

"Why...is there a dog in here?" Dr. Melendez asked, surprised.

Dr. Glassman grew nervous. "Uh... -Stress?" Dr. Glassman lied.

Pepper ran towards the door and jumped up towards him. Shocked by the mere size of her, Dr. Melendez backed up quickly. Dr. Melendez slowly snuck past Pepper and walked into the room. Shaun uncovered his ears and turned towards Dr. Melendez.

"Hello," Shaun said, before calling Pepper over and grabbing her collar.

"Hi, Shaun...Why is there a dog in here?" Dr. Melendez asked, not believing Dr. Glassman's statement. Shaun fiddled with his fingers.

"Well, I don't really know the whole story, but Shaun texted me that a dog tackled him this morning." Dr. Glassman started.

"The dog jumped at Claire, but I pushed her and got tackled in the hallway," Shaun explained.

"Huh. What's her name?" Dr. Melendez asked. Shaun took off the collar and gave it to him. Dr. Melendez read the name tag and made a surprising connection.

"I think I might know who 'Pepper' belongs to." Dr. Melendez said as he ran out of the room with the collar.

(Warning: A Dog's Purpose inspired me to give Pepper a conscience. Enjoy!)

'Take me with you!' Pepper thought as she ran after Dr. Melendez. Shaun attempted to grab her as best he could, but with no collar for a grip, grabbing Pepper was nearly impossible.

Dr. Melendez turned his head, to find Pepper chasing him. As his brain created adrenaline and fear, Dr. Melendez picked up his pace. He turned a couple corners and found that Pepper slipped when trying to stop herself. This led to Pepper falling behind, thanks to the turns. Dr. Melendez led himself towards his fiancée, Jessica. He grabbed Jessica's wrists and practically yanked her into the drama.

"Neil! Slow down! STOP!" Jessica demanded.

Dr. Melendez turned a quick corner and stopped.

"Neil Melendez, You are the CRAZIEST MAN I HAVE E-"

"Read the collar. Quick." Dr. Melendez interrupted and threw the collar at her chest. Jessica looked at the collar and gasped. She poked her head out of the corner and waved down the dog.

"Pepper! Come here, girl!" Jessica yelled. Pepper turned around and noticed someone very familiar.

'Jessie!!! You're here! I found you!' Pepper thought excitedly. She wagged her tail and quickly ran to her owner. Jessica knelt down and started petting her big dog.

"So...This is your dog?" Dr. Melendez asked. Jessica nodded and stood back up.

"Yes. Dr. Melendez, meet my childhood dog, Pepper. Pepper, meet my Fiancé, Neil." Jessica said. Pepper walked up to Dr. Melendez and put her paw out for a shake.

"Wow. You're a well trained one, aren't you?" Dr. Melendez complimented as he shook Pepper's paw. Pepper barked in response.

"Yup. Very well trained. And I think I might know who trained her." Dr. Melendez smirked and patted Pepper's head. Jessica smiled at Dr. Melendez's words.

"Yup, I trained her to put her paw out whenever I introduce her to someone, to bark at sketchy robbers, to catch any animals that don't belong in the house, and to even do CPR on an unconscious family member. She's actually done it before." Jessica explained. Dr. Melendez's mouth gaped open. Pepper lifted her paw and pushed his lower jaw up, to close his mouth.

"Thank you, Pepper." Dr. Melendez said, a bit embarrassed. Jessica giggled at her ridiculous fiancé...
