I led Jonah to my lonely corner with my only companion being the plant that looked like it hadn’t been watered in weeks. We both sat down and I felt so nervous my mind was going everywhere and my stomach felt like it was filled with butterflies i haven’t felt this nervous in years.
“So Cyrus back in town after 10 years” Jonah said
“Sorry I didn’t call or text you” I said faster than I thought.
“It’s okay man and you don’t have to be so nervous dude” Jonah Said
“So what brought you to Andi’s party” I said
“I saw the invitation on instapage, what about you” Jonah said
“Buffy called me and here I am” I said
“So what are you doing now” Jonah said
“Oh i’m just a pizza place manager, but you probably do something way better like a professional athlete” I said
“Not really” Jonah Said
“Let me guess your a model” I said
“No” Jonah said
“Firefighter” I said
“Por…..” I said
“No i’m not any of those just a warehouse worker” Jonah said
“That’s still a cool job” I said
“Sure so are you and Iris still together” Jonah said
“Yeah she’s over there with the tall guy with the scars” I said
He looked over there and he kinda of smiled.
“And those must be your kids” He said pointing Barry and Diamond putting way too many cupcakes on a plate
“Yeah let me call them.” I said
“BARRY, DIAMOND” I yelled
The two quickly hid the plate behind the chair and ran over to me.
“Kids this is my childhood friend Jonah” I said
“Hi” They both said. I always thought that the movies and TV shows were joking about the matching twin speech, but I was wrong
“Wow they're so different than thought”
Jonah said
“What do you mean by that” Diamond said
“I thought you two would be quiet and goody two shoes” Jonah said
“Well you thought wrong these two kids are the baddest kids I have ever known” I said
“Dad were right here” Barry said
“Barry am I lying” I said
He couldn’t find an answer
“Well Barry to me your a “Barry” good man” Jonah said with a cheesy smile
“Is he one of those guys” Barry said
“Ok I think that’s enough” I said
“Bye Jonah” Diamond
“Peace dude” Barry said
They ran back to finish off their plate of cupcakes.
“Well enough about me what’s happening with you.” I said
“Nothing much I don’t do much” Jonah said
“So are you and Amber still doing your on again off again thing” I said
“No she died 7 years ago from a heroin overdose” Jonah said
“Wow i’m so sor” I said
“Don’t she was dead even before she died” Jonah said
Ok let’s change the subject before this conversation gets to dark
“So who are you seeing now” I said
“Well I just met him 2 weeks ago….” WOAH time freeze did Jonah just say him I need to hear more
“Yeah we just hang that’s him over there near the flower painting” He said pointing to a tall guy with dark brown hair and a black leather jacket.
“Cool how’d you two meet” I said
“He’s my coworker” Jonah said
“Oh” I said
“Yeah” Jonah said
There was at least a of silence before Jonah spoke
“So are we going to talk about what happened the week before you left” Jonah said
“I was stupid Jonah we were teenagers and I just don’t know” I said
“But I need to kno…” He said before Max came over and interrupted
“So Jonah who’s your buddy” Max said
“I’m Cyrus Goodman” I put out my hand for a shake
“I’m Max Russo” He said as he shook my hand
“Well we should get going both of us have work” Max said
“Yeah it was nice getting to catch up” Jonah said
“It was great” I said
He reached out his hand and we did the exact same handshake from middle school it felt so nostalgic.
“We should hang before you go i’ll text you on facepage”Jonah said
“I’ll be looking” I said
He walked off with Max and I saw him speak to Andi before leaving.
I decided to actually get up and go talk to her
“Hey Andi” I said
“Hey Cyrus is everything good” Andi Said
“Yeah I just got done talking to Jonah” I said
“Yeah he looks way better after he went through therapy” Andi said
“What do you mean therapy” I said confused
“Oh he didn’t tell you let’s step outside.” We left the building and stepped outside it was starting to get dark but you could still see the Sun.
“After you left Jonah just went through a wave of things” Andi said
“What happened” I said
“Well after he came out to his parents they kicked him out and he had to live with his Aunt. He quit ultimate frisbee and stopped talking to us. He was reported to the nurse after a teacher found cut on his arm.” Andi said
“Wow all this stuff happened after I left so how’d he get help” I said
“Well his Aunt found his suicide note before he actually did it and got him admitted to a Hospital” Andi said
I had tears in my eyes knowing I had something to do with this. Andi saw this and tried to comfort me
“Don’t worry he’s much better” Andi said
“I hope” I said
