In his long years of growing up in the Seiretei within the Soul Society, he'd seen a lot of things that the regular people in the Rukon distract would never get to see. He'd seen various kinds of the creatures they called Hollows, the stronger ones called Menos and the less dangerous things like countless illegal operations that he was asked to come in and shut down. He'd thought he'd seen it all, after visiting those living outside the Seiretei and spending some time among the people, that nothing could ever surprise him.
Oh but he was wrong, so very wrong. As the new Captain of Squad Three examined the three dirty young faces standing in front of him, he wondered how on earth this had become one of his unofficial duties. Seeing that the children in the Rukongai would learn to be honest and live good lives, instead of him being called to sort out their problems when he knew very well there was a stack of paperwork waiting on the polished wood of his desk.
He wonders briefly if these people even knew that sorting out these kinds of problems weren't really what he was meant to be doing. It was surprising that they just didn't realise this, maybe he should have sent a lower ranked soul reaper under his command to come and deal with it. Alas he was here now so he would just have to deal with it.He sighs heavily. "Alright just return the man's goods you stole and we'll consider this square." Two out of three children threw their noses in the air, he'd be irritated if he hadn't been a pain in his parents' asses when he was their age. He wizened up somewhat after their deaths.
The stall owner struck the ground with his walking stick. "Answer the Captain you brats, I'll wallop you for that."
Keishin held up a hand. "There's no need for that...."
"Oh just give them good smacking, that'll set them straight." His Lieutenant pipes up from behind him. "Little brats deserve it."
He hides a groan. 'I thought I lost her after the gates' Maybe he should have hidden his reiatsu when he managed to ditch her once they left the Seiretei. 'Damn woman certainly is persistent.'
His lieutenant was Chikane Iba, a stern woman in both face and mannerism who expected the best from everybody and never failed to tell them off for it, her superiors included. Which also meant every morning Keishin got a run for his money on just walking the proper way. She was always telling him he wasn't doing his job a captain appropriately. He hoped she would retire soon or transfer, he wasn't sure how much more of her constant nagging he could handle.
The kids trembled at the sight of the angry woman, enticing Keishin to kneel before them. "If you return the goods you stole, you won't be punished." He ignores the scoff of Chikane behind him and leans in closer. "If you don't, I might just leave her here to deal with you and she's not going to play as nice as I am." He whispers.
The one with spikey red hair tied back immediately points at a ramshackle building further down the street. "It's in there, we were going to return it anyway." He complains, mouth turned down as he frowns.
"Yeah we were just having some fun." Another pipes up while the third, the dark-haired girl continues to look away.
Satisfied with his results he stands up again. "Good, then you shall carry every item back to this man's stall and the slate will be wiped clean." He looks at them all. "I don't want to be called down here again."
They all nod eagerly. "Sure, thanks so much mister."
"That's Captain Yamamoto to you." Chikane snaps angrily.
Keishin sighs. "Come on Chikane our work is done here." When she doesn't move, he's forced to grab the collar of her shihakusho and drag her away while she continues to scream at the children and himself. "And I told you, Captain Yamamoto is my grandfather, I'm just Yama."
