"Lauren, come on!" Normani encouraged as she ran off the back porch. "You're gonna miss out, silly!"

The younger girl hesitantly poked her boot covered foot onto the layer of snow covering the ground, looking at it in suspicion. "You gonna fall, 'anibear," she said, but it was too late.

Lauren winced as Normani slipped on the snow and fell on her back, landing with a loud 'oomf'.

"I'm okay!" the older girl called out and stuck a glove-clad thumb up in the air. She popped back up after a moment and grinned wickedly as she brushed off the snow that stuck to her coat. "Come on!"

Lauren sighed and warily made her way to the older girl, glaring at the snow as she walked carefully. Mama had told her to be careful, and unlike Normani, she was going to listen.

It had snowed during the night, leaving a decent layer on the ground. Dinah and Ally had decided to let the two girls go out and play in the backyard, knowing Mani had been almost impatiently waiting for a snow day.

Lauren, on the other hand, would have preferred to stay inside where it was warm and there was no threat of slipping and falling into the cold, wet snow. Normani had different plans and dragged the younger girl outside with her as soon as Ally had them both in an adequate amount of warm clothing.

The green eyed girl yelped, startled, when a clump of snow hit her in the chest. She looked up and scowled at Normani, seeing the older girl holding a snowball in her hand and grinning mischievously.

"Gotchya, baby bear."

Lauren's scowl only deepened. "'M not a baby," she mumbled. "Mama said so." She had finally stopped using diapers and was using normal pull ups, and her Mama told her she was a big girl now.

She bent down and gathered some of the snow in her hands, clumping it into a ball. She looked up and launched the crudely formed snowball at the dark skinned girl, but it fell apart before hitting its intended target.

Normani smiled and threw her snowball at Lauren, hitting the smaller girl once again.

"No fair! Mine bwoke!" Lauren whined, glaring at the older girl and pouting.

"You didn't do it right, silly. Here, I'll show you how to do it."

Normani walked over and knelt on the ground next to Lauren. She gathered a decent amount of snow in her hand, and packed it into a ball. "You have to make it stick, Lo. You can't just pick it up. Now try it."

The younger girl nodded and went to work, her tongue poking out in concentration as she followed the older girl's instructions. After a minute, she had a decent sized snowball. She held it up to Normani for inspection.

"Looks go-" the older girl's compliment was cut off by a grunt after Lauren hit her in the stomach with the snowball. "What was that for?"

"You hitted me. Twice." Lauren held up to fingers to emphasize her point and stuck her tongue out.

Normani pouted but perked up after a moment with a devious smile. She ran off to the other side of the yard shouting, "Snowball fight!"

Soon enough, the two girls were racing to pack together snowballs and launch them at each other as fast as possible. It quickly turned into a contest of who could throw the bigger lump of snow as they grew more and more sloppier with their creating of ammunition.
