~ CORA'S POV: ~

I jumped up from my chair and made my way over to Maia as Detective Hudson continued to point his gun in Demi's direction, "Listen, Demi! You have nowhere to run and no one to protect you, let's not make this any more complicated than it needs to be!" He yelled.

I struggled to pull Maia up from her chair, she was staring down at her tongue that was resting on the table, she was either in shock or in pain, "Maia! Come on!" I shouted as I tried my best to lift Maia up. Without thinking, I quickly reached over and grabbed Maia's tongue then stuck it into my pocket, "I have it alright? The doctors can sew it back on maybe, now come on!"

Maia kept her mouth closed as she nodded and finally stood up, we both moved away from the table towards the screen door.

Detective Hudson stood his guard and kept his gun pointed towards Demi, "Just don't make this any harder than it needs to be, okay? There's no need for you to get hit with any bullets today - even though you deserve it."

Nick and Detective Hudson both crept closer towards the table, "Just do what he says." Nick pleaded, "I don't want anyone else getting hurt around here."
I held my breath as I watched Demi slowly stand up from under the table, I was expecting her to be holding a weapon somehow but instead, both of her hands were in the air.

"Fine. You all win." She spoke, "I'll happily do what Detective dumb ass says." Demi's voice seemed to be calm yet chilling at the same time somehow, as Detective Hudson lowered his gun my instincts began to kick in as something didn't feel right.

"Nick!" I called out, "Don't go near her, something feels off."
Detective Hudson pointed his gun towards Demi once again, "Cora's right. Let's just keep Demi right here for now, the rest of the units are-"

Instead of Detective Hudson finishing his sentence, Demi interrupted him by whistling three times and finished with a smile on her face. The sound of heavy footsteps began to run around above us then towards the staircase, I shook my head quickly because this time around I knew what was coming.

"Run! RUN!" I screamed as I slid the screen doors open, "It's the Panthers!"

Detective Hudson quickly turned towards the staircase and started firing bullets as the first panther came running down, the second he turned his back away from Demi, she lifted her foot up to push the kitchen table towards him. The force of the table caused Detective Hudson to fall flat onto his stomach as the second panther sprinted towards him.

"Cora! Get out of here bug!" Nick rushed over to Maia and I then pushed us out of the house, "I love you okay? Go! Run as far as you can!"
"What about you?" I stopped him from closing the screen door completely.
"I'll be alright, go!"

As Nick slammed the clear screen door shut, Demi picked up one of the wooden chairs and beat Nick's back with it which caused him to bang his face onto the clear glass. Demi didn't hesitate to pull the chair back and slam it towards Nick's back again, yet this time she hit him so hard that the strength caused the chair to begin to fall apart.

I gripped onto Maia's hand just as I was about to run into the direction of the woods, yet Maia wasn't moving again. I spun around the face her with annoyance written across my face, "What is it?"
Tears were running down Maia's face as she pointed towards her mouth, "I know it hurts." I soothed, "But we have to run, please." I turned around and began to run again, thankfully this time around Maia didn't stay behind and trailed behind me.

Right as we were about to reach the first tree that was peaking out of the woods, the sound of an explosion erupted came from the house behind us. The ground shook as the sound of windows shattering came from the direction we were running from, Maia and I turned on our heels immediately to see that pieces of glass were falling in front of our feet. Smoke and fire rushed out from the place where the screen door once was.

I gripped onto my chest and fought the urge to collapse onto my knees, the lower half of the house was beginning to go up in flames which meant Nick didn't make it.

My eyes grew wide as a missile came flying out of the smoke and was headed directly for Maia and I, we both jumped down onto the ground and laid flat as the missile missed and hit a tree behind us.

The tip of black metal came creeping out of the fog, "I think I might have just killed my baby daddy? Oh well, men are useless." Demi smiled as she rested the bazooka onto her shoulder and pulled out something round from her jacket, "I would ask Maia if she had any last words to say but I have a feeling her tongue might be a lil' busy."

Once Demi was finished with loading the bazooka she aimed it towards the ground where Maia and I were at, "Let's get this over with!"

I jumped up immediately and began to pull Maia away into the direction of the woods, the smoke and fog was starting to become thicker by the second as another missile went flying into the air and hit a couple of trees that were nowhere near us. Which meant that the smoke was either blocking Demi's vision or Demi was missing on purpose.

I slightly fell forward and lost my grip with Maia as she pulled herself back, "Maia!" I groaned as I stumbled ahead, I turned back to see what the reason was for her to stop this time around.

Maia's eyes and mouth were wide open which was causing bright red blood to drizzle out of her mouth and down her chin, she was just staring at me.

"Close your mouth, you're going to bleed out for Christ sakes!" I advised as I began to walk back towards her, before I could grab onto Maia's hand again she came down onto her knees and fell face down into the grass, which revealed that she had three daggers sticking out of her back. I jumped back at the sight, my eyes became watery as a noticeable amount of blood began to surround Maia's body.

I quickly blinked to clear my vision and looked up once again, Demi was walking towards me from a distance with both of her hands placed onto her hips, "Looks like it's just about to be you and I for a little while!" She exclaimed, "Are you done running now? Because, to be honest, Cora-Cora, you really have nowhere to go." Demi laughed as she stepped closer towards me.

"You said you can't hurt me as much as you want to." My voice trembled as my body was frozen in place, "So then what are you going to do?"
"I can do whatever I want now!" Her voice squeaked as she continued to laugh, "Nick is dead and I've managed to grow strong enough to push Demi all the way to the back, she's gone. She can't fight to stop me from hurting you anymore!"

"But what happened? What went wrong? Why did you even show up in the first place?"

Demi leaned over Maia and pulled a dagger out of her back, she wiped the blood off of it with her jacket sleeve, "What? What the fuck are you talking about? Nothing went wrong, everything is perfectly fine."

"Demi, please. I know the last thing you'd ever want to do is hurt me because I was always the last person who would ever want to hurt you. No matter how tired or sad you were, you would always want to take care of me at the end of the day." I begged, "I love you and I know you're still in there somewhere."

Instead of replying, Demi flung her hand back to throw the dagger.

I gasped as a wave of pain came flowing from my shoulder, I looked down to see my  blood beginning to drip out of my shoulder and down from the dagger, "You're talking to the wrong person Cora." Demi hinted.

Demi rushed over to me and pulled the dagger out of my shoulder, I yelled out in pain then brought my upper body forward to place my hands over the stab wound. Demi gripped down onto the top of my head and shoved my entire body onto the ground, "For some reason I want you to feel every inch of the pain that you're about to endure. I don't want you to black out or get all foggy, I want you to remember every single fucking second of it as you fade towards death." She kicked onto my chest which caused my body to fall backward, my head hit the grass as I gasped.

As I was finally able to catch my breath, Demi kicked the side of my rib as hard as she could. Another wave of pain went through my abdomen and up into my chest, "Are you having fun yet Cora? No? Well, let's go ahead and try something different!" Demi began to lean down towards my stomach and pulled up my shirt with one hand while the dagger relaxed in the other, she dragged the tip of the blade across my skin slowly, "Maybe we could cut you open, see what's inside then let a few wild animals come along and pick you up, doesn't that sound much more entertaining?"

Just as Demi began to put pressure down onto the blade to create a cut, she dropped the dagger and began to wobble, "What the..? What the hell?" Her words slurred as she fought to stand up straight, but she ended up collapsing down onto my body with her eyes shut.

About five police officers came into my view, "Cora Callahan right?" The first officer said, "You're safe now, we promise." He bent down and pulled out a syringe needle from the back of Demi's thigh.
