-Four months later
~CORA'S POV:~
"Are you sure that you want to do this?"
I nodded as I kept my eyes focused on the gigantic building that was stretched across the land, one half of the building was a state prison and the other half was a psychiatric ward for the inmates.
"You don't have to do this, Cora." Nick suggested, "I can do this alone if you need me to."
I looked up at Nick who looked almost as anxious as I was, the left side of his face was covered in healing burns. For these past four months, I've been trying my best to not stare at the rest the left side of his body which was covered in second-degree burns, he's been in a great amount of pain these past couple of months but thankfully he's starting to feel normal again.
"I want to do it, I want to speak to her," I replied.
When Demi finally got arrested, she wasn't sane for the first two months in the ward that they were holding her in, the system believed that she was just a serial killer at her arraignment. Once Nick and I testified about seeing the sane Demi resurface every once and a while during her trial, the judge decided for the prison to keep her under observation mental health-wise for this past month now. From what Nick has told me, Demi has been getting transferred back and forth between the state prisons mental facility and regular ward.
When Demi's sanity is there and standing strong, she gets placed into the regular ward for about a week or so until she begins to slip, once she does, she gets placed back into the mental facility. They've been trying different medications with her to see which one keeps her stable and in touch with reality for the longest, they've been trying different dosages yet she can't stay on one strong dosage for too long since she's pregnant.
The mental facility was able to diagnose Demi as a sadist with dissociative tendencies, which explains to why whenever she would lose touch with reality her main goal was to hurt someone because she genuinely enjoyed seeing people in pain.
The psychiatrists believe that the sadism appeared once Demi found out that Joe was constantly cheating on her and wanted him to suffer for all of the times that he hurt her, but of course it ended up spiraling out of control to the point where it was able to create a completely different side of Demi to carry out those plans. Over the years it managed to get stronger and be able to push the real Demi away, then cause her to appear whenever it wanted her to.
Which makes sense to why the sane Demi would appear out of nowhere, the insane part of her wanted to toy with our feelings, just to throw us off constantly.
Nick held onto my hand as a weak smile appeared across his face, "Please don't hesitate to let me know the second you want to leave, okay?"
"I'm pretty nervous to see her," I breathed, "Now that I think about it... I haven't actually spoken to the real Demi in a long time. I miss her but at the same time I'm sort of scared."
"Me too, bug. We're going to try our best, just let me know if you're uncomfortable with trying at any point."
Since Demi wasn't sane at her arraignment or during her trial, she pretty much has no idea what she's done and when her psychiatrist tried to get into detail about it she didn't want to hear it.
Nick and I finally agreed that we'd be the ones to explain and get into details about everything that has happened to Demi, the psychiatrists believe that it would probably be better for her hearing it come from people that she's familiar with anyways.
-
Nick and I made our way into the prison ward to check in and to let them know who we were here to see,"Demi Lovato." Nick spoke, "We have an appointment to sit down with her today."
