I’d been waiting for Kayla’s text for about four hours, so pretty much ever since I got home. When she finally texted me, this is what it said:

“Hey Emily. The date was great and I had a super fun time! I will tell you everything tomorrow, but now I need to go to bed. :)”

LAME!

How can she just tell me that and not expect me to freak? You seriously can’t just say that and then leave it be, especially when that person has been waiting since you left to know all the details!

I texted her back:

“Are you kidding me? I want to know the details right now woman!”

She didn’t reply. I sighed. Oh well, she would live up to her promise and tell me tomorrow.

I had been pacing my room waiting, but now that she wouldn’t tell me anything, I sat down on the ground, leaning against my bed. I didn’t feel like going to bed yet, although I probably should have. The excitement was still coursing through me, even though she let me down.

As I thought about Kayla and James, my thoughts began to wander to the first day we met. Especially to Adrian. Something about him was off. I didn’t know what it was, but I wanted to know. And as bad as it sounds, I wish he could have been at least slightly more romantic with me. I mean James went against his friend’s wishes just to get Kayla’s number! Adrian basically just said, hey I guess this is goodbye forever. Gosh, sometimes, I really hate boys!

But at the same time, despite the fact that he hid his eyes and hair, he was super cute. And he was funny, once he was slightly out of his protected shell. He was so mysterious. It made me want to know more about him. But I would never see or talk to him again.

The next morning, I awoke to a knock at my bedroom door. Assuming it was one of my siblings, I stretched and told whoever it was to go away and let me sleep. (Turns out I had fallen asleep in that position by my bed and now I was paying for it.)

“Even your best friend who’s here to tell you all about her date last night with the cutest boy in the world?”

I bolted straight up and ran to unlock my door. “Kayla!!!!” I shrieked and hugged her. “Sorry, I didn’t know it was you. Come in, come in! You need to tell me everything!” Only then did I realize I had just woken up and my breath probably didn’t smell very good.

“Umm . . .” Kayla said, coming into my bedroom and sitting down on my bed.

“Hold that thought,” I said and rushed to my bathroom. I quickly brushed my teeth and put my hair up in a ponytail and raced back in. She looked like she hadn’t moved an inch.

“Okay, now I’m ready. Tell me exactly what happened!”

Kayla just laughed at me and began to tell her tale. I listened attentively and I only gasped a few times. (More like a hundred, but that’s just a few right?) When she told me about the last bit of her date, where they held hands all the way home and she felt like they fit perfectly in each others’ arms, I pretty much died. Not literally, but I was so freaked out.

I was pretty much speechless when she finished.

“Wow.”

“I know.’

“Just, wow.”

“I know!” Kayla said, slightly more excited, slightly more irritated.

“I mean, oh my gosh, that’s so awesome!” I said.

She nodded. “I know.”

“I mean, I’m like so happy right now for you!”

She just laughed. “You really have no words do you?”
