“Adrian?” I asked in shock. “What are you doing here?” I cried. He smiled and got out of the car. He looked the same as the first day I met him. Cute blond hair, covered by a beanie, and sunglasses covering his eyes from the world.

“Surprise!” He said. “I am here to pick you up for our date.” He smiled even wider.

“Date?” Everything hit me then. I turned around to see James and Kayla standing on the porch, grinning. James was giving me a thumbs up. They had planned this. Oh, those two were SO going to get what was coming to them.

“Yes, date. Is that alright?” He asked. I turned back to look at him, smiling.

“Of course!” I said and he chuckled lightly. “Let me just run inside and grab my purse.”

He nodded. “Of course. I will be here,” he said. I quickly ran toward the house and grabbed Kayla’s hand as I did so, pulling her in. James just stood there laughing as I did. When we were alone, I said. “You planned all of this didn’t you?” I was only slightly annoyed, in fact not really at all, but I just wanted to put up the act.

“Surprise!” She said. “I was talking to James and he told me that Adrian really wanted to go out with you so we set up a little surprise for you. And yes before you say it, I had you get ready as well because I knew you would go on the date tonight with Adrian. You’re not mad, are you?”

I raised a stern eyebrow at her. She shrunk a little. I then smiled and threw my arms around her.

“Of course not! Thank you!” I said. “And tell James thank you as well.”

“I will, you two have fun. Oh and I already grabbed your purse. You are set,” she said, handing it to me. I didn’t even know that she had it!

“Thank you!” I said again. We hugged and then she followed me back outside. Adrian had moved and was now talking to James on the porch. They both grinned when they saw our approach.

“You ready to go, Emily?” Adrian asked and I nodded.

“Let’s go!” I said. I followed him to James’s car and he opened the door for me. I sat in the passenger seat and he shut the door. I looked out the window to see James and Kayla standing on the porch. Kayla had James’s arm around her shoulders. I smiled at the sight and waved, hoping they saw. Adrian got in the car and started it. They were waving as we drove away.

“So when you said that we would be going on a date soon, I didn’t realize it was this soon,” I joked. He laughed.

“Yeah, it was kind of a surprise to me, too. James just comes up to me today and is like, ‘Hey, me and Kayla are going on a date tonight, so you should come and surprise Emily because I know she’ll be there with Kayla and I can get her in on it too!’ And I’m just like okay. So yeah, that’s how this happened.”

I laughed. “Nice. So, where you taking me?”

He looked at me. “I’m not telling,” he said.

            “Aww, come on.”

“Nope, you’ll just have to wait and see,” he said. I huffed.

“Fine,” I said, with exaggerated compliance. He just laughed at my suffering.

“I’ll tell you this.” I looked up hopefully, ready for a clue.

“You’ll like it.” I collapsed back down.

“That’s no help!” I said. He smiled. “I know,” he said. I just groaned, but trust me, I was completely enjoying this.
