There is what?” I cried. Emily handed me the magazine and I glanced at our picture with the band on the cover. I couldn’t believe this. Not one bit. “How did this happen?”
“I don’t know. The guy must have snuck the picture while we were walking,” she said.
No, duh. “Yeah, I guess.” We were silent for a moment.”What do we do now?”
“I honestly have no idea. Adrian said it would be all right, we just need to lie low for the time being. Skip school tomorrow.” I nodded. It looked like there was something else she wanted to tell me, but I didn’t press the issue. There was knock at the door.
“Come in,” I called thinking it was Dad or Mom or even Owen but it was not. The door opened to reveal none other than James, carrying a vase full of lilies.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” He walked over and wrapped his arms around me, completely forgetting that I was, you know, sick!
“How did you find out?” I asked him. He grinned.
“I have my ways,” he said. I looked at Emily who was pointing to herself and winking. I rolled my eyes and glanced back at James.
“I’m feeling a lot better, thank you,” I said. He smiled.
“These are for you my little lily,” he said. He handed me the vase and I smiled.
“Thank you,” I said.
“Sheesh. Maybe I should get sick so you could bring me flowers, James,” Emily teased, grinning madly.
“Eh, I wouldn’t go. I’d text you, but I would only go if this gorgeous girl here was there, which knowing you two, she would be,” he said and I chuckled as Emily stuck her tongue out at him.
“I will leave you two alone. I’ll be downstairs talking to Owen. He was playing an interesting game on the Wii when I came in so I’m going to go watch him,” she said.
“Emily, are you feeling okay? You really want to watch Owen play one of his stupid games? Are you sure that you shouldn’t be the one sitting in this bed?” I said and she stuck her tongue out at me.
“I’m trying to give you time alone,” she said, extending the “o” out. I gave her a flat look, even though I appreciated the sentiment. “I’m going to go now,” she said and walked out of the room.
I turned to look back at James, who was grinning. “Have you always been this funny? Or have I just rubbed off on you?”
“It comes and goes,” I replied with a smile. There was another knock at the door and I half expected to see Owen coming up to complain about Emily (it’s happened before) but it was not. In fact, it was my two sisters.
“Hi, James!” Hailey said. Her and Jamie both were carrying something.
“Hi, Hailey. Jamie. What can I do for you?” He asked. They smiled and both held up pictures of what looked like his band.
“Can you please sign these for us?” Jamie asked. I lightly face-palmed myself.
“Guys, that’s kind of rude,” I told them, but James held up a hand.
“No, it’s totally fine. Here." He grabbed a pen from my desk and signed them both. “How would both of you like to watch us rehearse and meet the other boys in the band?” Their faces lit up and I couldn’t help but smile at their excitement.
“That would be awesome!” They cried, cheering.
“I will text your sister and let her know when to bring you guys, okay?” He said and they nodded. Probably too excited to actually hear what he was saying.
