Well, the night we got home from Kayla’s house, I knew I was in at least some form of trouble, even though I had a legitimate reason. The whole way home, my parents were silent, which usually are my warning bells.
When we got home, they sat me down on the couch and told me that I would be grounded from driving for a week for missing school today, even though I could skip school tomorrow. Tell me, how is that fair? Thankfully, they weren’t too mad at me, more just disappointed. And I could live without driving for a week. If it hadn’t been a good reason, I’m sure they would have grounded me for at least a month, especially since I was hanging out with a boy.
As I got ready for bed, I couldn’t help but think of Adrian as I did so. His sweet gestures today when I went to visit him had seriously made my day, which was saying something because, seriously, it was a really rough day. He was just so sweet, so charming. Not as funny as James or crazy as Bridger, but I liked to think of him as the one who balanced them all out; he had a good mix of all their traits. Maybe I could hang out with him tomorrow on my day off.
I woke up the next morning feeling pretty good. I didn’t have to wake up early, I made myself a great breakfast of pancakes and bacon, which were really good, I must admit. After I had gotten ready for the day, I checked my phone and found I had a text. From Adrian. I smiled to myself as I unlocked my phone.
“Hey you free today?” The text read.
“Yes :)”. I replied.
A few seconds later, the reply came.
“Great. You want to come over here?”
My thumbs hovered over my phone, ready to reply “sure”, but I thought second of it. Adrian had still not met my family and I believed it was high time he did.
“Why don’t you come over here?” I asked him through text.
After a minute, he replied. “Are you sure? I wouldn’t want to impose.”
“Of course I’m sure. You’ll be fine.” I told him.
“All right if you insist.”
I replied with a smiley face. He told me he’d be there in about five minutes and I checked a mirror downstairs to make sure I was presentable. I tried to smooth my frizzies down, but to no avail.
I sat down to read until he got here. I tried to concentrate on the words, but I just couldn’t. The doorbell finally rang and I got up from the couch to get the door, but my sister beat me to it.
“Hi there,” I heard Adrian say to my youngest sister, Kate. As she came into my line of vision, I just saw her frozen at the door, staring up at Adrian in awe.
“Hi, Adrian,” I said, reaching the door and pulling it open further. He looked a little relieved.
“Hey, beautiful,” he said stepping in and giving me a kiss on the cheek. Heat rose to my cheeks. Kate made a face and ran back upstairs to play with her dolls, but not before looking back at Adrian with a slightly confused look.
I turned back to him. “Sorry about that. I think she thought I was lying when I said I was dating you.”
He smiled. “Well, now she knows.”
I led him inside and we sat on the couch together. “So, no rehearsal or tutoring today?” I asked him.
“Nope. I have the entire day for you. I only do the private tutoring Mondays through Thursdays for only a few hours.”
“Dang, I wish I could substitute school for tutoring.”
“Actually, it’s really boring. And very hard core. And we have lots of homework and essays.”
