It didn’t take us long to shop. Emily, being exceptionally good with clothes and their patterns, she came up with an outfit in the first hour of looking. While I was waiting at times, I texted James. I texted him my address and we started talking. Eventually, she came back and had found me a really cute blue and white polka-dotted top and some colored green jeans. We found some grey Toms to match. We also found some silver earrings.

We went home to my house and put the outfit together and set them aside for tomorrow. We then sat on my bed talking for another couple hours, procrastinating our homework. When we did start doing it, our minds weren’t in it. When she left, it took me another hour to complete. Time seemed to take a stroll and slow down. I was dying for tomorrow to come.

That night I didn’t get much sleep because of my excitement. I watched as my clock went from 10:00 to 2:00 am and I still hadn’t fallen asleep. My eyes were drooping, yet I wouldn’t fall asleep. I could feel the headache coming and that made me want to collapse but I couldn’t. I think I fell asleep a little while later but eventually when I woke up to my alarm, my head was pounding and I wanted nothing more than to just snooze my alarm and go back to sleep. But I couldn’t.

I trudged out of bed and put on some sweats and a hoodie. I would make sure that I looked nicer tonight for sure. I put my hair in a ponytail and put on some mascara. When I went to pick up Emily, she was appalled at my outfit.

“How can you wear such a thing on such a big day? I am ashamed of you,” she said when she got in the car and gave me a good look.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t get much sleep last night and I decided to wear this,” I told her. Not like it would’ve helped.

“Girl, all that outfit’s going to do is make you even more tired,” she said.

“I know,” was all I said.

“Alright Kayla, about tonight. I will be there around 3:30 to help you get ready,” she said. “We are going to curl your hair all cute and I am going to help you with your makeup. You are going to look adorable for James tonight!” She cried and I laughed.

“Glad I have your help,” I told her.

“Just face it, you would be helpless without me,” she said.

“That’s true. I would be just a little, but I would adapt,” I teased and she smiled. We reached the school and I parked in the student parking lot. I put the parking permit out for people to see and we hopped out of my truck.

The school day seemed to take forever. Each class seemed to drag. I couldn’t focus in any of them. Not even choir! Or band! Those are classes I should pay attention in but I don’t. (Band is one of the classes I didn’t have with Emily.)

When school finally ended, we raced to my truck. I hopped in the drivers seat and started it. As soon as reached my home, we rushed to do our homework (which thankfully didn’t take long). Right at 3:30, we started getting me ready. I got in my new outfit and and she started to do my hair. It took an hour to curl it and make it look nice. I was glad when it was all over. She then did my makeup which consisted of eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara.

The doorbell rang just as we were done.

“Kayla! Someone is here for you!” I heard my Dad say from downstairs. Emily looked at me excitedly and I quickly went out of my room and down the stairs. James was standing in the doorway with his sunglasses on and hat like last time. But of course he still looked adorable.

I came down the stairs and saw that James was standing slightly uncomfortably inside the house right by my dad, who happened to be staring him down ever so slightly.
