Chapter 10: Jade

Luckily, we lived about 10 minutes from the hospital, we ran into the hospital and demanded to see Mindy. I was fingering my ring, "We need to see Mindy Craig, please?" J. C asked, both hands on the countertop. The receptionist looked up, logged them in, handed us medical masks, (Just in case.) And sent us to the fifth door on the second floor, on the left. We ran up the stairs, too anxious. We fell through the door, and came upon the worst scene we've ever seen. Derek sitting in the seat next to Mindy, holding her hand.

"OUT!" I bellowed, grabbing Derek. "OUT YOU BASTARD!" I started to punch, kick, hit everything I came in contact with. Cameron grabbed me, pulling me away.

"JADE WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!? WHY ARE YOU BEATING UP A STUFFED ANIMAL?" He screamed, tugging me back to a corner.

"Stuffed animal? But I saw..." ripped tufts of animal fluff all over the floor. Mindy was still knocked out. I heard my phone bleep. Once. Twice. Three times. It didn't stop. I glanced at the background picture on my lock screen. Me and Cameron at prom. Then I unlocked it. Me and Mindy about a month ago. She still had some of her red hair, her emerald green shinning. Now she had no hair left and I couldn't see her green behind her eyelids. Her heart monitor was beeping okay. (But then again, how would I know.) J. C sat next to her. He held onto her hand, his knuckles pale, his face tired. I looked at Cameron.

"Go. Mindy needs you. I'll be fine." He raised an eyebrow. "Seriously, Cam I'm fine. Go." He kissed the top of my head. I didn't know why I had the urge to say what I did next. Something was pulling at my stomach, yelling at me to let Cameron know. "I love you. I'll love you when you're mad. I'll love you when you're happy. I'll love you when we say 'I Do.' But most importantly I'll love you when you're sad." I hugged him. He squeezed me.

"Me too." And he walked over to Mindy, and sat on her other side. Again it happened again. 'Tell J. C you love him too"J. C? We all love you too. Me, Rosie, Lisa, Shane... Mindy. Every living thing in our house loves you." He nodded, but didn't turn. And suddenly I heard a long, never ending noise. Beeeeeeeeeeep. Mindy's heart monitor. She wasn't alive. Doctors swarmed in like bees to a person with sweet skin.

"Sir, you have to move." One said to J. C. But he wasn't standing.

"Mindy? Mindy wake up! MINDY!" J. C and Cameron cried. Cameron tried to lay over her frozen chest. A doctor shoved him. It was still beeping. Beeeeeeeeeeep. I covered my ears.

"CAMERON. MAKE IT STOP." I was growing hysterical. Cameron for once didn't come to me. He was yelling to Mindy as he was being pushed from the room along with J. C.

"MINDY! Mindy we love you! JADE AND JUSTIN AND ME. WE LOVE YOU!" He screamed as a security guard came in wrapping an arm around Cameron. Another grabbed J. C. No one noticed me so I ran to Mindy.

"WE DO. GO. SLEEP. MINDY WAKE UP. WAKE UP. BREATHE!" I shrieked as another guard came in. I kick. I hit the guy in the jar. I knew deep down inside, he was upset. That there's been lots of grieving parents, but not 3 screaming, fighting teens. But he still carried me from the room. Cameron grabbed me from the guys waist and spit in his face. The guard just wiped it off, looked directly in my eyes and said. "I've never seen such love and I've had to do that at least 3 times today. I just didn't have to carry them." And turned away. I turned and looked at J. C and Cameron. I opened my arms as wide as I could. They both walked into them and I hung onto them.

"She waited for us. Just so we knew she loved us." I whispered to them. My white tank top was wet, but I didn't care. The little wetness from each of them would cover for the mascara streaks I left on their shirts.

"Um.. excuse me." A lady said, from behind the boys backs.

"Yes?" I said, a little harsh considering the fact that she could tell we were grieving.

"Cancer?" I nodded. "Here," she handed us a roll of money, "for funerMake the angel look beautiful." I gripped the cash. She made a cross starting at her head, to her chest, to her left shoulder, and then to her right shoulder.

"Thank you." I said, holding out my left hand to her. She grabbed my finger. She starred at the ring.

"Marvelous. Just beautiful. When did he," she pointed to Cameron, ", propose?"

"Um...today actually." I answered. The woman smiled. She started to mumble to herself about young love. She shuffled away, twiddling her fingers. "Wait! What's your name!?" I called after her.

"Um... I'm not sure." She called back, waving a hand. I scrunched my eyebrows, but turned my mind to Mindy. I clutched onto J. C and Cameron's back, letting them sob and sob on my back. I looked at a receptionists. I called over to him. He walked over and asked me if I needed anything.

"Can you call 435-321-1234 please, ask for Lisa and/or Shane. Tell them that Mindy died, but not to tell anyone else. Tell them Justin, Cameron, and Jade need a ride home. And make sure they know you're a real person. We've had stalker problems." The man gave me a kind smile, and told me sorry for my lose. I thanked him and he went to the phone. I let go of my fiance and best friend. "We need to sit, but I won't ever, ever let you go." I promised as we walked to three magenta colored chairs. I sat in Cameron's lap and held J. C's hand. Not romantically, but the way a sister would grip her brothers hand. The same receptionist came over and told me Lisa would be over soon. Just then she ran through the door and ran to us. She wrapped her arms around us and we all sobbed. Every single one of us.

"Were you there?" We all nodded. She sobbed louder. "My goddaughter!" She wailed. We all grabbed each other as we went outside. Only our van was there.

"Did you," I sniffed, "walk here?" Lisa shook her head. "I was looking for you three, Shane called me and I just walked the rest if the way here. So only I have to drive."She wrapped one arm around J. C, the other Cameron and he wrapped his around me. I snuggled into him. "I love you Cameron."

"Forever and always?"

"Forever and always."
