Shopping With The Devil

"Alright kids. We've got four minutes till open doors." Mom began, grinning like a kid on Christmas morning. "My kid's pair up with the other non-jayne's since they're new at this."

Lux leaped toward Mason instantly and Noah was standing near Stefan, frowning at my shaking big brother. He was physically built like a mountain, but internally he'd be about as strong as a near-dead leaf (or something just as depressing). He was dying at the fearful probability of getting sick.

"I guess it's just you and me Sweets." Hunter's voice chimes in, rather slyly.

"I...Can't! You don't know how long these shopping trips last. There is no way I'll make it out alive if i spend that much time near you!"

He rolls his pretty green eyes. "You truly wound me Virginia. Honestly, soon I'll be reduced to the average angsty teenage guy who believes what everyone says about him."

I blink. "You aren't already?"

"Casey May Jayne! That was very rude!" Mom chastises, her dark eyes slitted. "Apologize immediately!"

I frown. "Why? He's always mean to me!"

Then she gave me 'the look'.

Every mother has 'the look'. She used this recently on Lux when he was sent to the office on the first day, when i was locked in the bathroom, when I refused to pack up my room back in Georgia. This was the look that sent shivers down your spine (which is far worse in weather that has to have hit below zero by now) and makes you feel like the worst human being to ever have lived.

A disappointment at it's finest and truest.

I stare at the ground, and shuffle back into place so that I'm directly facing the Jerk and slowly look up at him with wide eyes.

He gapes at me, as if i just turned into Godzilla, but I suspect that is simply because he never dreamed I would apologize to him for anything.

"Hunter..." I look directly into his pretty green eyes. They truly were a brilliant foresty color. They were like a fir tree. I kind of wish he was wearing a red sweater because then he would be the perfect representative of Christmas with those eyes.

Shoot, I got distracted.

"I'm sorry I called you an average, angsty teenage boy who believes everything anyone says about himself." I widened my eyes into flawless puppy dog eyes. "Please forgive me."

"Awe shit, she's hitting Hunter with the eyes." Lux said to someone. "Now he'll understand true evil."

I heard Mason giggle, but I kept my wide-eyed gaze on Hunter's eyes. His eyebrows. Oh boy, those eyebrows though!

No! His eyes. Beautiful, fir tree green. Reminds me of Christmas. Draws you into a sort of hopeless daze.

They were now widening. His eyebrows shot down. His mouth jutted open slightly, and then he seemed to internally recoil.

"No! I'm sorry." He blurts loudly. The frowns, as if he wasn't sure of what he said, why he said it, or anything that just happened for that matter.

I smile slightly.

"Holy shit. Did Hunter just apologize?" Noah's voice chimes in.

"I-I think he did. Did he even need to apologize?" Mason asks.

"Nope. It's those eyes. If they turn on you, you'll understand." Lux warns her.

"You're just pathetic Lux. You're the only one that falls for it!" Stefan comments rolling his eyes.
