A Cut Above The Rest

"What do you want?" I asked Hunter, arms crossed over my chest.

Hunter was leaning against the wall beside the entrance to the nurses office. He looked at me, smirking annoyingly, before running his hand through his hair.

"You, but that can wait till later." His smirk became a grin as he stood up straight, towering over me. I glared at him. He really wasn't giving the teasing a rest today. "As of now I need you, my sweet little church girl is to join me on a journey." He grinned. "Have I enticed you?"

"Not really." I sighed, running a hand through my already messy hair. My hair looked messy, but it just made me look ever cuter.

Today I was wearing a generally dressier ensemble today. A red skater skirt , black leggings, with a pair of gold converse. On top I wore a red and white Bob Dylan t-shirt tucked within the shirt and a checkered scarf. This was in response to Mason's pleading for me to dress up so she would not look especially strange wearing her dress and heels today for some National Merit Scholars event.

"Don't act so nonchalant Sweets, you love every little second you get to be around me. I'm like the little church girls drug, right?" He smirked as he toyed with a wavy strand of my hair. "It's cute really."

And then he stepped back, a long, lightweight step and slipped his hands in his pockets.

"Enough." I told him, sending him what I hoped appeared as a dirty look. "Just tell me what's going on."

"Come on Virginia, stop being so uptight." He frowned. "Don't tell me you're on your period or some shit like that-"

I held myself back from telling that, that indeed was the exact situation. It's not like I was considerably difficult on it. I do have less energy though, so my family basically had shrines to my period since I first got it.

And so I just gave him a sour look.

"Apparently you are. Well, we'll make sure that doesn't get in the way of the mission." He grinned. "Basically don't be a bitch. We're going into the city to visit a friend of mine and help him out."

I paused him, feeling instantly worried. "This isn't a drug deal is it? You should know how I feel about drug dealers...Or is it a back robbery, a robbery in general? A jail break! Hunter I swear if you try and involve me in any sort of criminal act and damage my dreams of getting into Julliard I will commit one last crime before going to jail and it will involve killing you!"

"Relax Virginia. There is nothing criminal about it. It's just that you're the only person I could ask who doesn't already know him. He has this secret he wants to stay secret but it wont stay secret if someone who knows him goes where we're going...You get it?" Hunter asked, looking slightly winded.

"Not at all...That was like fifty shades of shady."

He paused, looking at me funnily. "Shades of shady?"

I sent him my 'duh' look before crossing my arms back over my stomach. "As long as you can promise me there will be nothing illegal about this task i will help you."

He grinned, grabbed my shoulders leaning down and kissed my cheek. I scowled, noting that the blood rushed up to my face as he walked away from where i stood whistling some mixed up, upbeat tune.

"Where are we?" I asked, feeling self conscious from the gazes being offered by a homeless man. He was definitely less of a 'Dear, may I have some change' and more of a 'I'll kill you and use your skin for warmth' type of guy. I hated having to think that, but it was all too true.

Or maybe it wasn't, maybe he was just a naturally scary looking guy. Maybe young jerks come around and kick him and so he turns all broody and mean when he sees young people.
