This Chapter's song is : Arabella- Arctic Monkeys
-------------------------------------
Sweat drippled on my forehead as the merciless blazing sun of California shone above me, a can of beer in one hand trying aimlessly to cool my burning skin, and the thumb of my other hand was raised at the passing cars, which ignored me as if I were a psycho.
But I wouldn't blame them, I was slightly insane -if not completely- for trying to walk all the way to the concert hall, and I knew I was ought to get tired of walking so long, but however my heart long for music as much as my body long for air conditioning; I simply couldn't deny it the pleasure of listening to the band live again.
When another driver passes me, yet again only glimpsing at me before completely dismissing me, I started to consider to just start walking again, but right before I let my numb arm down a car caught my attention with it's attire, it was a green old beetle, if not for the casual scratches on its side, I would have confused it with something out of a back and white movie, very affordable, the kind of car for a simple university student.
Ironically, the green beetle slowed down and came to a halt right infront me being the third to do so, I didn't get as excited as the previous times, I strolled slowly to the car leaning against the window pane, being greeted with a young guy, quite handsome with a grin dressing his tired face.
" Need a lift? " he said as I took a second before answering, my eyes scanning him, sizing him up.
He was definitely a uni student, around my age, a twenty, maybe a twenty one with his hair pointing in different directions as if he just woke up from a peaceful slumber.
But there was something else that caught my attention; his eyes.
To say his eyes were blue was imprecise and insufficient; for they looked like they captured the morning sky and the deap blue ocean, like each speck of his irises either contained an untamed wave or a piece of the clear blue sky, all framed by his drowsy eyes; simply exquisite.
" is there any chance that you are going to the Neighbourhood's concert ?" I said my eyes setting on his t-shirt that held the upside down house.
"Yeah actually" he said, pulling a ticket out of his pocket " hop in"
" Grand " I said, smirking softly as my hands nonchalantly grazed the sharp metal in the back pocket of my shorts.
Gotta be prepared, right?
I stepped inside the car, noticing how constarct the inside was from the outside, it was all modernised, with state-of-art sound system and -praise the Lord- a great air conditioning system.
"So, what got you to stand here, in the middle of particularly nowhere?" He asked taking glances at me every few seconds while driving, his eyes full of doubt as he scanned me from head to toe.
"Even though its none of your business, I guess I owe it to you for the ride. I took a ride to where I was and unfortunately the ride is right now hungover, so I didn't have a ride" I said talking a sip out of my beer.
"So you just wait for a ride from a stranger? Have you ever heard of a taxi?" He said rasing his eyebrows In amusement and in some kind of fear.
"Well first of all, I was willing to walk, second of all, I hate taxis, so I wouldn't bother"
"It's nearly 20 miles from here to the concert" he said chuckling at my bizarre behaviour his eyes squinting at me in mock suspension.
"I haven't calculated it, have it?" I said taking another sip of my now empty can of beer.
After a long silence I took a sly glance at him between my eye lashes, noticing him shamelessly glancing at me as if his mind is pondering something oved and over, but before I could protest his mouth beat me to it.
"You know... maybe I can show you my flat after the concert, it would be nice if you stay the night..." he trailed off, biting his lip softly as his hand rest on my knees in lame attempts to seem cool.
"I think you should back off" I say, swatting his hands away, for them to be right back, this time a little bit higher than my knee.
"But I bet you will not regret it.....I'm Louis by the way" he says smirking as his hand trailed up a little with each word.
I sighed, rolling my eyes as my hand pulled out the pocket knife from inside my pocket, fliping it open, gazing at how it's metal shone, reflecting the sunlight in such a gorgeous parent.
"Well Louis, you know Mr. Butcher is really new, and I would love to test it's sharpness, and as you said a while ago, we're in the middle of nowhere, think about it, cause I won't regret testing it" I say, licking side of the knife nonchalantly afterwards.
"Shit, she is crazy" he mumbled quietly, I immediately ignored it.
"Oh....um...how about a f-fresh s-start?" He stutter over his words making me grin in victory.
"Sure" I flipped the knife closed, putting it back in its place inside the safety of my pocket.
"I'm Louis, and you are?" He said, nervousness overflowing his words.
"Well Lou -I can call you Lou, right?-, that's for me to know and for you to find out, now would you drive a little faster?" I noticed the soft sound that had been playing quietly all the way.
My fingers flick up the sound, I was in control as usual, and I definitely like it.
'My days end best when the sunset gets it self, behind
That little lady sitting on the passenger, side
It's much less picturesque without her catching, the light
The horizon tries but it's just not as kind on the eyes
As Arabella'
