'Some shots or just a drink?' FP asked.
'I'll have a Shirley Temple. But can we just.. talk? I know this isn't really the place but..'
Of course we can talk, Ali.'
I sat on the barstool next to him. Luckily this area of the bar wasn't as loud as at the stage.
'How do you feel? Is it about last night?' He asked.
'Oh no I didn't want to talk about that.. but I must say that I surely don't regret it.' I smiled at him. His face lit up when I said it.
'Me neither. How do you feel.. divorce-wise?'
I was a little hesitant because I didn't want to burst our little bubble but finally I gave in, knowing I couldn't just forget anout the divorce.
'Not too well of course. But Betty said there would be a party tonight and she asked me to come. She thought it would somehow cheer me up. I feel like it does but not completely.'
'Of course not, Alice. You just broke up with the man you've been married to for so many years. He may not be the right one but it is normal that you're not your happy self today. Or any of the soon upcoming days, really. Just know that I'll be here for you if you need to talk to someone.'
'Thanks FP.'
'Here you go guys.' Hog Eye said as he gave us our drinks.
'Cheers FP.' I raised my glass as he raised his shotglass. 'Cheers.'
After a few drinks my drunk self decided it was time to dance. I walked up to the table where Betty and Jughead sat and tapped my daughters shoulder. 'Wanna dance?!' I almost screamed. FP tried to hold me back but he couldn't.
'Mom, are you drunk? Is she drunk?' She now asked it to FP who was standing beside me. He just nodded and mouthed: 'Sorry.'
'It's alright.' Betty said as she chuckled. I've just never seen her like that.
I grabbed Betty's hand and practically dragged her to the dancefloor.
'Come on! Show me what you've got!' At this statement she started to laugh and just went with it. Although I'm drunk, dancing with my daughter was one of the best moments of these past couple of weeks. Our bond had never been better. She had always been a daddy's girl but after our breakup I felt like she started to take my side a little more. It's not like she should pick a side, but I guessed she did. Or was this my drunk mind speaking?
'Are you having fun?' My youngest daughter asked.
'Too much fun honey.' I really meant it. Her inviting me was about the best thing she could have done. I got back in touch with my real self, my Serpent-self although I had decided to lay down soms ground rules for myself. 1. Don't do any drug trafficking/something illegal, 2. Be a little more grown up (after this night then), 3. Still continue writing, 4. Stay away from the awful Serpents. Yes, not everyone is nice, and finally: 5.Spend more time with your children. This one had nothing to do with being a Serpent or not being one. The last couple of years all I had been doing was yelling at my daughters. I love them so much but I need to learn that they are teenagers just like I was one all those years ago.
In the far distance I had also heard Betty reply to her own question: 'I'm having fun too mom. Thank you for coming, although you won't remember too much of it tomorrow.'
'Wanna get another drink?' I asked her and Jughead.
'Uhhhm I think you've had enough, Alice.' FP interupted our conversation although I didn't mind.
'Alright, then I'm getting myself some water.' My drunk self managed to say. I sounded pretty sober after all the dancing but when I tried to walk to the bar I almost tripped. 'Damn you stilletos!' I said as FP kind of held me up, by touching my lower back as we walked.
'Hmm I like that FP.' I winked at him. Dammit, my drunk self took over again.
'Alice, not here, our kids..'
'Oh, right.'
Betty came rushing after me. 'Mr. Jones, thank you for helping my mom out a little.' She seemed worried.
'Hey, no problem Betty. I'm always here for her.' I only heard parts of this sentence but it made me feel amazing. Our kids can't know of whatever we have going on but a true friend is something I for sure have in FP. That was something I didn't mind Betty noticing. Our kids had always seen us fight or have arguments but I am glad we worked things out.
'A water please.' I said to the bartender. Suddenly Tall Boy stood next to me. 'So, look who we have here? Alice Cooper. Oh wait? Smith it is now?'
I sighed. 'Tall Boy, it's been a while.' I never liked this guy. He's always trashing everyone and accusing everyone of everything. He looked at me from top to bottom with this dirty look. 'Looks like you haven't changed. Still a Serpent slut.'
This had completely freaked me out. Normally it wouldn't because I was somewhat used to the man but my drunk self went crazy. I clenched my fists and before I knew it, I punched him right in the stomach.
'I am not a slut, nor have I ever been one, you ass!' I yelled as loud as I could and stormed outside. Luckily he didn't follow me but my daughter and FP did.
'Alice? What the hell? You know he could've hit you right back?' FP said as I stumbled outside.
'Mom, oh my god..'
'I know, I know.. I just couldn't take it. You know why FP.' He looked at me like he understood.
'What.. what happened? And also, what happened between you two? I feel like you used to despise each other and now..'
FP wanted to shut me up but I kept going. 'Well, no, I've never despised him. It was your father that didn't enjoy being around him. So I pretended not to like him. But he's a great friend whom I have known for years.' It was silent for a second.
'Oh, I see. I already thought you would've known each other from the Serpents.' Betty admitted.
'Yeah..' FP said and in that moment Jughead came outside.
'Are you guys okay?'
'Oh yes, we are great, my mom punched a Serpent.' Betty said sarcastically.
'Alice, are you okay? What happened?' He asked.
'It's alright Jughead, thanks.'
'She just needs to drink some water to get sober.' FP commented.
'I'll get her one, will you come with me Jugg?'
'Sure.' They both walked back in and a couple minutes later Betty handed her mom the glass of water.
'You're lucky with your daughter Alice.' FP said as both of their kids walked back inside.
'Yeah I am. But you are too.' I softly punched him on his shoulder.
'I am. And I am also happy to have you.'
'Even when I'm drunk?' I giggled.
'Oh yes. Even when you're drunk.' He smiled.
