Chapter 15: Digging up the past

A few days had passed, it's a Sunday today. In the meantime Polly had come home with the twins. She and Betty have been on cloud nine because of the babies. I hadn't seen FP in a couple of days but we were probably going to meet up today.
'Mom?' My youngest daughter called for me.
'Yes Betty?' She sat down next to me on the couch.
'Polly's resting and the twins are asleep. Can I ask you something?'
'Of course you can. What's on your mind?'
'Well, since Jughead's officially a Serpent now I want to know some.. stuff.'
'I see.. You can ask me anything.' Lately I've been trying to be as open as possible with my daughters but I have also been hiding who I'm currently seeing. I feel like the being open and honest thing is kind of working.
'Alright.. So Jugg has a tattoo now, just like all the other Serpent members. You've got one too then?'
I blushed and didn't know what to feel, do I have to feel proud of my tattoo or should I tell her that everything with the Serpents was one big mistake? I decided to just tell her honestly.
'Yes, I have one.'
Betty nodded. 'And where?'
'Oh you're curious, aren't you?' I laughed.
'Yes, I know but I really want to know more about the Serpents. I would also like to know some more about your past mom. I feel like lately we've been getting along better. I like the relationship we have.'
'I do too. We've come from far. I'll show you the tattoo if you really want.'
'Are you sure? If you're not comfortable doing so you should just tell me.'
'No, it's alright.'
I turned around so she was facing the right side of my body. I looked around, wondering if no one was watching, then I pulled up my shirt a little. I lifted the part of my bra that was covering the tattoo under my armpit. It revealed a tiny S looking like a snake.
'Oh it's so small! How is it that I have never seen this?'
'I've always tried to cover it up with my bra and during the summer I'd put a little foundation on top to cover it. One day my parents asked and I said it was an 'S' for Smith. They seemed to understand.' I giggled.
'And they never found out?'
'No they don't.'
'Well.. I like it.'
'Thanks.'
Betty broke the awkward silence by handing me something else. 'I found this upstairs, do you want to go through it with me?'
It was my photoalbum of my highschool years. Honestly I had forgotten everything that was in there so I just said yes.
Betty opened the book on the first page and I immediately noticed a picture of me in my waitress uniform.
'Oh mom your hair! I've seen a couple of pictures of you from your teenage years but this.. you look amazing.'
'Thanks.'
'I bet all the boys fell for you.' She giggled and I did the same. There was this tiny person inside me that told me to tell her the truth. But the other tiny person told me to shut my mouth. Me and Betty were just getting along so well.
She flipped through the other pages these ones contained nothing other than familypictures of me and my mom and dad. Then she turned to a new section in the book. In big black letters it said 'SERPENTS'.
She was eager to turn the page and I put my hand on hers for a second.
'Betty. I am not going to hide these things from you. I want you to know that, but I need you to not take every picture that you see on the next pages so seriously. As you will probably be able to tell from the pictures I had - I corrected myself - have great friends. You have to know that being in the Serpents isn't an amazing thing. I have been through some things that I'd never want to wish upon you.' I let go of her hands as she slowly flipped the page.
The first picture was me in the Whyte Wyrm, together with some old friends of mine. On the right side of the book there was a photo of myself getting my Serpent tattoo.
'How old were you here?' She asked curiously.
'18 I believe. You know Betty, I see a lot of my character traits in you.'
'You do?' She asked.
'I do and I am so happy about it.' I flipped the next page myself.
Oh crap. This was a photo of me and FP during our younger years. I remember that night, a couple of hours after the picture was taken FP and I had kissed for the first time.
He stood pretty close to me and had his arm wrapped around my waist. I was hoping that Betty wouldn't think too much of it.
'You and FP have really known each other for years haven't you?' She just smiled.
'Yeah we have, he's one of my dearest friends, I know it doesn't always seem like it.'
She flipped the page. I don't know how it could've slipped my mind that it was in there but the next picture showed me and FP. We sat in the booth at the Whyte Wyrm. He had one arm wrapped around my waist and we shared a soft peck on the lips.
'Wait, mom.. is that...' She hesitated to ask me.
'I uhm.. I forgot that picture was in there.'
'So it is indeed FP?' My daughter was shocked and I couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't deny it either, the picture was right in front of her and it was clearly FP Jones.
'It is.'
'So you dated?' At first she looked at me like I was a fool.
'Yes. I know I should've told you Elizabeth but..'
'No, mom, I should've guessed. That is why you always gave Jughead a hard time. Wasn't it?'
'Yeah. I just wanted to protect you and then I found out that my girl was dating a Serpent.'
'FP's son.'
'Yes. But it is alright Betty.' I put my hand on her back. 'I like Jughead, he's a good kid.'
'Thanks mom. He is.' She bursted out in laughter. 'Oh my god all that time you gave me relationship advice based on a past relationship you were thinking of him weren't you?'
'Well yes. I figured father and son would kind of react the same and they're both Serpents so..'
'I get it mom. It's alright. But isn't it super awkward between you and FP then?' As she asked this I got anxious.
'No, it's alright. We've always been good friends.'
She hesitated. 'Alright then.'

You might have seen a post on my Instagramstory about how I lost all of my chapters, that's what it looked like on my phone, but I opened the desktop version of Wattpad and there they were. Thank god.
