Archie was determined to win you over, to prove that you loved him as much as he loved you and to prove that you two belong together. Only, none of it was working. As much as Archie tried, you stuck it out with Reggie by your side.
He did everything you would have loved if you weren't already in a relationship. He was as sweet and thoughtful as ever. But you would never turn your back Reggie like that, he deserved better.
Archie even went as far as helping your mom with her garden and she absolutely loved him for it. She always liked the thought of you and Archie together but she wasn't opposed to you being with someone else as long as they treated you right.
She didn't mind Reggie, both times you had gotten with him he was always respectful and well mannered around her but she just didn't think he was your type. After all, mother knows best.
You brushed off what your mom told you. Like, okay it's good to know whose side your on. Obviously not yours but Archie's.
After repeating to her for the millionth time that you two were just friends she rolled her eyes and left your room.
Archie did small things here and there to get your attention. One of the most memorable was when you were all attending a BBQ at the Cooper residence.
You were sitting with Veronica and Betty when Archie came up to your table. Unfortunately, you were in the middle of eating a hot dog when he quoted your favorite movie which almost made you choke.
"Is that a wiener in your mouth or are you just happy to see me?"
Betty was confused but Veronica burst out into full blown laughter. You on the other hand were stunned into silence. One, that was so cheesy since it was from one of your favorite movies. But two, it meant he payed attention enough to know how much you loved that line.
Even though it was entertaining, you laughed it off as just something a best friend would say. "Ha ha. Very funny Arch." You went back to eating and talking to B and V.
On the other hand, the time he sent you flowers was a bit awkward since you had been hanging out with Reggie at your house when your mother announced the delivery.
"Y/n, these flowers just came for you." She came into the living room carrying an arrangement of your favorite flowers where you and Reggie were watching a movie. He had been laying his head on your lap while you played with his hair.
Reggie sat up and while you made your way towards your mom. She handed them to you and left the room.
When you took a hold of them you inhaled their sweet scent. The thought that Reggie had remembered they were your favorite, really showed he was trying. It warmed your heart and made you smile in appreciation. "They're so beautiful, Reg" you said while adding, "You didn't have to buy me flowers" even though you loved that he did.
His face contorted into a sour expression, "I didn't." You tilt your head to the side, not understanding. "Is there a card?" he asked.
You survey the bouquet and find a small note card attached. You open it up and read:
Only the best flowers for my best girl -A. Andrews
Reggie read it from over your shoulder and you felt him tense beside you. "Hey," you set the flowers down and reach for him. "Don't worry about it. I chose you, remember?"
He sighs looking very torn. Without meeting your gaze he says, "I can't help but doubt whether you choosing me was the right thing to do. What if you would be better off with Andrews?."
I broke your heart to see him so self conscious and vulnerable. "Don't talk like that Reggie. I'm going to have a serious talk with him about stopping all this nonsense. It's getting out of hand."
