It started with a scream.

The last kind of sound you want to here when you're in the dark alone. There was nothing ever comforting a woman's scream, sending chills down your spine.

What was the natural reaction to something like that? Run? Pretend you didn't heard it? I did none of those. Instead, I ran towards where the scream came from.

It was foggy that night so everything was blur, all I could hear was footsteps. As I stop and to catch my breath, I could hear another scream echoing through the dark streets, not far from where I am. But this time, the voice sounded familiar. Her voice cut through the thick fog in the night air. The street lamps weren't helping as they were flickering which made it even harder to see in the dark.

I came to a paused at the corner of the alley, shock to see a trail of blood leading towards a figure. My heart tore itself between stopping and pounding.

The figure was lying on the floor, still and not moving, like it was dead. I moved closer, trying to get a glimpse of the face. Her hair was tied into a bun, a rather messy one. Her loose brown hair entirely obscured her face, leaving it in the shadows. I looked closer, her face seemed really familiar...

"M-mom!?"

My body froze. I was shock. Wait, shock isn't the right word to describe how I feel. My whole body felt numb, a sharp pain stabbed into my heart, leaving me in terror. I could feel all the pain and sadness flowing into my body, imagining life without my mother. The first dead body I ever saw was my mother's. I was not a random passerby walking home from school in the evening, nor a jogger waking up early for a morning jog, that is shock.

The dark pool got wider and wider, I quickly kneeled down I reached for my cellphone, my hands shaking, but my cellphone wasn't there.

I stood up and searched around my pockets then into my bag. Why does my phone go missing in a time like this?
I started to panic. I tried picking my mother up but for a 13 year old, my mother was quite heavy.

"Looking for this?"

A voice came from behind. I jumped. A girl stepped out of the darkness. She held my phone on her fingertips. Her face was blocked by the shadows. I could not see her face, but I am certain her eyes were glowing. Who was she?

I noticed blood stains on her shirt. The red liquid slowly dripped from her arms to her hand, leading to a sharp and shiny object, but at the end of the object was covered in blood.

She then took my phone and threw it on the ground, breaking it. She stepped roughly on it multiple times. She looked back up at me, using her knife to point at my chest as she gave me the widest and creepiest smile I have ever seen and said,

"You're next"
