By this time it was 8:00 p.m., and two concerned families were desperately talking to each other at the Neals' house. "So you haven't heard from either one of them?" Christy, Link's wife, asked. "Well, this morning at about 8:30 Link came over and was asking where Rhett had gone to. When I woke up this morning, Rhett wasn't beside me, and I haven't seen Link since this morning. He told me that he was going to find Rhett, and not to to worry about anything." Jessie replied.
The wives knew that their husbands wouldn't go anywhere without telling them, so this thing with Rhett was worrying everyone, and the fact that Link hadn't come back yet made everything seem even more worrisome and stressful.Locke and Shepard, Rhett's kids, were in tears. Lily, Lincoln, and Lando, Link's kids, were also in tears. Locke and Shepard had stayed home from school, but Link's kids had gone, not knowing that their dad wouldn't be at home that night. The two wives cried on each other's shoulders. They prayed for a while, and then Christy waved the McLaughlins goodbye and goodnight.
Now it was just the Neals. It was at least 9:30 by now, so Christy kissed the kids goodnight and told them to get some sleep. She, on the other hand, stayed up for another couple of hours praying.
